dirk nowitski = Larry Byrd?

I'm sitting here watching the Mavs,Kings game... and I realize that EVERY game, Dirk Nowitski is compared to Larry Byrd..I was like why? Larry Byrd played the 2 and Dirk Plays the 3... Dirk is 6'11? Byrd was like 6'8...is the only reason he's being compared because he's pigmently challenged?
