Since Friday night is approach I thought to cheer you up a bit.

Ever been in narcosis for surgery procedure? It's a deep sleep state where most likely you don't have any dreams and even if you do when you wake up you usually don't remember them. Now when you wake up from a narcosis what can you tell about it if you didnt have any dream(s)? How did you feel? What did you think? Nothing.

That is death.

What happens to the consciousness / soul / "essence" of the person? Do those things turn to nothing during narcosis and then back into something upon awakening, or do those things not exist, and are just made up "things" just like heaven?

Your soul is nothing more than your brain. If your brain doesnt function neither does will soul. When you die, your brain dies, your soul dies. It doesnt suddenly get a life of its own (something most people want to believe because it gives them hope).

I'll accept that life is empty and meaningless. It's just hard to accept that that's all there is to it.

I mean we're not just comprised of just matter; we have electrical impulses coursing through our bodies. I can understand the "matter" part of us decaying to dust, but where does the "energy" part go?

Life is not meaningless, human's presence in the universe is meaningless. Just think for a second. Humans are tiny little shits in a system with billions planets, stars etc all under a pefect harmony and they want to believe all these are "Working for them" instead the opposite.

Actually it's not sleep at all and you usually wake up fatigued because of it. You're right though being put under is close to death since almost all but the most basic brain activity is still going on.
