Unless I can buy a boat we are fucked. (PICS)

Every year the snow melts the ri8ver floods, this year it has melted faster and rained more than normal. We have a flood alert in our village.

The house usually over looks a farmers field and a nice sedat river. Today it overlooks a raging torrent and the warning is the water will rise.

http://www.paulmarkham.com/temp/flood1.jpg

Our house is the yellow one at the back. The barrier is something set into the dyke and erected for times like this.

http://www.paulmarkham.com/temp/flood3.jpg

This is the field where the farmer should be planting his spring greens this week, more likely he should plant rice.

http://www.paulmarkham.com/temp/flood2.jpg

Not far to go and it's into the street then into the fields behind the house.

http://www.paulmarkham.com/temp/flood4.jpg

This is where he keeps his tools.

http://www.paulmarkham.com/temp/flood6.jpg

See the difference in 24 hours and it's rising.

http://www.paulmarkham.com/temp/flood5.jpg

So I might be rowing to work next week.

The serious problem is the concrete barriers they have, the latest news is they may break.

Paul Markham 03-31-2006 06:34 AM

This is the page that shows the problem.

http://www.mapmaker.cz/sap/pmo/cz/index.htm

The top graph is the water, the bottom the speed. I've been told they're not sure the dyke walls will hold.

More pictures to follow.

Manowar 03-31-2006 06:40 AM

Violetta 03-31-2006 06:40 AM

Take care. Keep your computer dry! We can't afford loosing PMCS!

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 03-31-2006 06:45 AM

da man 03-31-2006 06:54 AM

too much water sucks..

Abithefiend 03-31-2006 06:56 AM

Haha yep, a boat is the only thing that will save your ass!
Boats are cool though, my father had one and we went out on it as kids...was great fun. I'd love one.

XX_RydeR 03-31-2006 06:58 AM

Be safe man.

Hope everything turns out ok for you

Rydz.

Deputy Chief Command 03-31-2006 06:59 AM

minusonebit 03-31-2006 07:39 AM

Wow, few things suck as bad as a flood. Keep safe.

elitetec 03-31-2006 08:08 AM

Try to find one very fast. Don`t wait anymore

Damian_Maxcash 03-31-2006 08:11 AM

It seems to happen every couple of years there - how is Prauge fairing this time?

leggs 03-31-2006 08:15 AM

I would sell you our boat.
But unfortunately it sank to the bottom of the med.

Figure this one out....
We sink because of bad weather conditions and no fault of our own. (Unless you count my dumb ass newf-acadie husband thinking we could sail the mediterrian in feburary!)

Well we got hit with a fine for enviroment hazzards.

Thank Heavens for insurance!

Deej 03-31-2006 08:43 AM

nothing like being trapped in a overly wet dyke :winkwink:

I was in this position once, cept it surrounded us, completely, "they" flew in food from a helicopter to us, was turkey hoagies for the whole town... n ketchup!!

was crazy....good thing was school was right on the other side of the water bloackage....

blowme_DL 03-31-2006 08:49 AM

IWantU_Jeff 03-31-2006 09:07 AM

holy cow.. hope things dont get worse there!! Good luck to you! :/

AmateurFlix 03-31-2006 09:09 AM

Good luck Paul. Maybe you can put some of the talent to work placing sandbags around your home to build your own barrier.

XxXotic 03-31-2006 09:11 AM

looks like every rainfall here in louisiana. :( hope you dont flood out!

Paul Markham 03-31-2006 12:09 PM

This is what we are all watching. The river has actually dropped by an inch. But still in the red.

The top graph is the water level, the bottom the speed.

pornguy 03-31-2006 12:12 PM

More proof that you can not trust a dyke.

pornguy 03-31-2006 12:13 PM

By the way, I will take your flooding and raise you about 2 feet of mud, and water that runs at about 35mph.

Sosa 03-31-2006 12:28 PM

buy a jetski

Morgan 03-31-2006 12:31 PM

where is that?

you need to move. i cant figure out why people live in places that look like that.

Egomancer 03-31-2006 12:36 PM

Egomancer

xclusive 03-31-2006 12:37 PM

as for me the road I live on is under construction, and will be for at least another year. But every time it rains, the water comes down from the mountains with a lot of mud, rock, and trash, and flows through the streets towards the beach. sometimes moving fast enough to move cars.

Why do I stay?? My house is 2 blocks from the ocean, and I can see the water from my office up strairs. I can hear the waves all day and night. I pay about 120 every 2 months for electricity, and the very best beef ( better than anything that you can get in the states is about 12$ a KILO. thats 2.2 pounds.

Wiggles 03-31-2006 12:59 PM

damn that sucks, behind my old place the creek would overflow from the melting snow and flood basements like mad.

sounds beautiful. i love the beach. as far as beef goes though, i beg to differ. i own a wholesale meat company and sell to the best/most exclusive restaurants in "The OC". I sell dry-aged (3 weeks), prime, organic/all natural beef that it's tough to match. It makes Kobe beef taste like beef jerkey.

Noone beats my meat!

Doctor Dre 03-31-2006 01:10 PM

Good luck with that . Definitly time to think about moving somewhere higher ugh ?

Stallion 03-31-2006 01:15 PM

damn that sucks, be safe..

L-Pink 03-31-2006 02:34 PM

I can see it now, on CNN ... a rescue chopper is hovering over Paul's house ... a basket is lowered ... there is only room for ONE!

Paul throws in a plastic garbage bag full of 2257 documents, waves the pilot off ... shouts "The rest of us will take our chances"

chaze 03-31-2006 10:31 PM

Damn dude that reminds me of my home town Napa, hate the rain that's why I'm LA now. maybe we will see you here soon after a couple more of those.

But I remember rowing down the flooded streets, that actually kicked ass.
