Design question - surfers still use 800x600?
Just looking at some of my stats and it seems that only 18% of people are using 800x600 and looks like most are over 1024x768. Anyone here have a free site that is wider then 800 pixels? Just wondering how many people are designing free sites now over 800 pixels wide.

most are using the next notch up, 1024

I had a site that was at 1024, a few days ago, I redid it for 800 and my prod went from 350% down to 220%... needless to say, I changed it back to 1024

some stats from today
1024x768 - 6506 800x600 - 1696 1280x1024 - 1374 1280x800 - 540 1152x864 - 433 |
hold on let me check my screen settings ....:upsidedow

I design everything for 1024x768 nowadays - let the 800x600'ers scroll around.

Yeah thanks for all the info guys! :) Someone brought up a good point to me and its that the 18% or whatever it is that are using 800X600 still might result in my loosing out in clicks to ads or whatever on the right side.
littledragon thats a crazy drop! Maybe i'll make a bigger version of the site when i get the balls :) For now i guess i might stick 800 :-\ |
do what I'm doing for my next site, I'm gonna design it in both 800 and 1024. Use each for a few days and see what the prod is, then use the one with the higher prod.

1024x768 is the way to go

I'd use 1024x768 if I were you. Currently I'm only getting around 12 - 16% visitors with a resolution smaller than 1024x768. If you've got the time, do both, as littledragon suggested...that way everyone's happy & you reach maximum sales potential.

I meant do what littledragon suggested, but don't erase it after you're done. Keep em both up permanently & give surfers an option.

Design for 1024, but keep it centered, then it still looks ok in other resolutions...:)
