Question about RAM (not the bald head cockstud)

Question:

Does anyone here have 4 gigs of RAM in their PC?

I have 2 gigs of RAM now and was wondering if doubling the RAM would make a big difference.

Anyone??

I run a shit-load of things at once and my brain is always moving at the speed of a horny Mexican in a Strip Club.

Kind regards Mates...

do you smeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllll what the rock is cooking ?

Yngwie 03-29-2006 01:09 AM

Personally I don't see the point of having 4gb of ram. 2gb is sufficient. I have a Pentium D 3ghz (930) with 2gigs of ram and I'm content with that.

Why yes... Yes I do...

I am cooking a pot of Bangers n' Mash, Mate

How did you know I was cooking---Mate?

bon appetito....

i am out.

one last word to the ram thing...

depends on what you are doing and if you feel the computer is to slow...

im working on 512ddr ram and it is enough :)

because i don't do anything with graphics or photo retouching

but hey

that's just me

rock-reed 03-29-2006 01:15 AM

Mate...

At any single moment... I will have

more than 50 firefox pages open

vegas 6 running and rendering

adobe audition recording a net-radio broadcast

photoshop open and working many imagines

dreamweaver open working 3-5 different sites at once

an ftp uploading to the server

2-4 peer2peer programs running each pulling no less than 10-20 files each

2-4 remote desktops to other machines on my network

yahoo chat

icq

msn chat

aol chat

skype

shrimp gumbo...

And that's about it...

Yngwie 03-29-2006 01:20 AM

and how much ram does all that use up?

rock-reed 03-29-2006 01:21 AM

I am really not sure...What is an efficient way to check mate?

Yngwie 03-29-2006 01:28 AM

crtl alt del to bring up the task manager and click on the the Performance tab

Look under Physical Memory
Total
Available

rock-reed 03-29-2006 01:37 AM

Around 400,000

Yngwie 03-29-2006 01:52 AM

so with all of that open you are only using 400mb of ram??

Yngwie 03-29-2006 01:53 AM

if that's the case getting 4gigs of ram is pointless

Yngwie 03-29-2006 01:53 AM

also, if you notice your pc running slow it can also be because it's running a little hot.

depends what you are doing, video edting it might help. I suggest faster HD 16Mb cache and 10.000 rpm

Yngwie 03-29-2006 01:56 AM

sata2 hard drive if your motherboard supports sata2.. or even sata .. if your motherboard supports it.

Nathan 03-29-2006 02:06 AM

Your bottleneck most likely is going to be the harddisk in that kind of a setup. Get 2 SATA2 drives and split up the work among them. Or even better, get a raid... At 2gigs of ram it takes a while to actually use it up, and the hdd load from all the apps running is much more severe.

rock-reed 03-29-2006 02:37 AM

Available floats from 300-400
U asked how much available

rock-reed 03-29-2006 02:38 AM

The system is a Quad Xeon running 4x3.4mhz

Yngwie 03-29-2006 02:40 AM

and you want 4gigs? why would you need that with a setup like that?

rock-reed 03-29-2006 02:50 AM

I guess the answer to that Mate is that....

Rock Reed doesn't fuck around.

Does that translate in the USA?

rock-reed 03-29-2006 02:53 AM

Basically... I do very well with $$money and I like to have the best Equipment and Toys possible...

My girlfriend is a $1000 Dollar a night Dancer at the best club here.

woj 03-29-2006 03:31 AM

I doubt it will make any noticable difference, but if you already spent few k on a system, extra $150 will not effect your budget at all...
