Democrats, how can you defend your spineless party with a straight face?

As a card-carrying, democracy-bond-buying Democrat, when I read statements like this:

I can't help but think that he is exactly right. I will never agree with his ideals, but his judgment of our party is spot on. (Our elected) Democrats have become so incredibly spineless over the last 6 years, and although I'd love to somehow blame the 'other' side, at some point it does come down to the fact that so many Dems in office right now are straight-up pussies who are afraid to speak their minds. Not all, sure, but the majority of the minority for certain.

What ever happened to putting the truth above fear of political suicide? Blame the right-wing "Spin" machine if you want to, but Dems spin shit just as hard and it doesn't seem to stop nearly as many Republicans. If the Dems BELIEVED in their message you'd think more of them would stand up and speak their truths, fearlessly and with conviction, in defense of their own RIGHTNESS. (No Pun)

Don't you think that this dialogue has got to at least start amongst Dem's if we want to see anything change? It's all good to count on Bush to fuck things up to the point where we'll easily put a Dem in office, but is that REALLY OUR BEST STRATEGY? It's fucking pathetic.

:2 cents:

Why am I not surprised?

sounds about right. right side just likes to let their nuts hang when it comes to taking action, which is always the preferred approach

The Democrats lack unity right now, and since no clear leader has stepped up, they don't have anything to rally around at present.

Right now, what many Democrats "believe" is that they must not run the risk of losing even more ground to the Republicans. Their current lack of power prevents them from doing anything meaningful, so most of them are just playing it safe. Which is, ironically, rather dangerous.

unfortunately in this day and age, I look at anyone that is heavy into politics or claiming to be in this party or that and I laugh

everything about our political system in the USA is so fucked up, doesn't matter what party you are with or who you stand for....it is all a mess

Of course Im right. Why do you think everyone was in so much disbelief on Nov. 2nd? Sure you hear everyone on the left making a lot of ruckus. Its loud and they feel like they have a great cause, and everyone is right there beside them. When people come into the ballot box they vote what they really know deep down. They might deny it to everyones face, but most people know what is really needed. Its not just politicians. Its the entire left. Voters, and politicians. Lots of noise. The right quitely holds the majority.

I agree. There is no clear leader willing to hang their balls out there. So what you are left with is a lot of rhetoric, and side swipe politics with little action behind them.

What the Dem's need is a few hardcore people to throw out front, and should be talking about whatever it is the party even stands for anymore. About the only one I can think of, seriously, who is even out there talking about anything in nonelection years has been Gore and his environment crusade.

Hilary Clinton, who I would vote for just to get Bill back in the white house, would be in a lot better position if she stood up and took on some big issues now, and started the movement for change. But her, like all of them as far as I can tell, do little more than side swipes to get a headline here or there, and it fades away.

The Dems as a collective should ALL be talking about whatever they stand for now, and have a unified vision moving forward. Hell, they could be ranting about the same shit that had gotten Bill Clinton in the office in the FIRST PLACE more than a decade ago! Balance budget, healthcare, etc. But no. More side swipes, and rhetoric.

Until they get some balls, they will continue to take it in the ass.

Like I said, I DISAGREE with your ideals in whole.

But thanks for the input :)

Tell them to stop acting like fucking commies and act like Clinton did and go back to the center !

Bill8 03-29-2006 12:54 AM

The right wing has spent 20 years and hundreds of millions to build the most powerful media attack machine ever created, and the democrats don't have anything like it, and mostly the dem rank and file are ordinary people who don't scream and rave like the right wing machine.

So, the democrats need to build their own attack machine. It will take time and money.

Besides, leave the republicans in charge for a while longer, they are making themselves look worse every day, and the abortion issue might just explode in their faces.

Tempest 03-29-2006 01:16 AM

The democrats problem is that they think people are intelligent and can handle a complex issue. They can't. The masses are sheep that just want things black and white, to feel that the leaders are doing the best for them and that everything will be A-Ok so they can go back to their drugs, eating, drinking and TV watching..

spanky part 2 03-29-2006 03:19 AM

The dems need our own Carl Rove.

I can't stand the guy, and think he is the scum of the earth, but we need one.

With Democrats like Liebermann running around it wont matter which of the two parties wins - and that includes getting Hillary or any of the other Repub wanna-bes into office - they'll all just keep going on the path to this countrys' destruction of it's core belief system.
If they were to get someone with balls like Gore in there he wouldnt last long - and he knows it. It's a real shame that leaders with good ideas and ideals have to put themselves on the backburner to protect themselves and their families.
