Best And/Or Most Affordable Way To GeoIP Block A Site?
 

I need to block specific American and Canadian cities from accessing some sites - MaxMind is charging 90 bucks a month for their updates - are updates that necessary? I would rather buy the database for a one time fee but if updates are really necessary than i'll have to do it.

Also - whats the better method of using GeoIP from MaxMind to block access - they have a Web API where your server side script checks with their database on their site - or you can install their databases on your own mysql server. which is better and why?

you can find the db with IPs for free and have some write you a small script

I`ve been using the ip2nation database at www.ip2nation.com,which is free.
They also provide some sample scripts.
I dont think they have a IP to city database though so I don`t know if that`ll work for you.

definitely need a city database - don't wanna block an entire state or province. thanks for the link.
