BMW M3, 330i, or Lexus IS 300?

So... I went shopping today for a new car, since my 01 gt vert sucked my balls so much I had to give it to my sister as charity.

Here's what I narrowed it down to:

98 M3 Sedan, 25k miles, askin 31000.
99 BMW 330i, 29k, 29k.
02 Lexus IS300, 32k.

Anyone have any of these cars? By far the lexus had the most features, but doesnt handle nearly as good as the bmw, and the tiptronic is flakey.

330i, drives like a fuckin dream, has pretty good horsepower too.. 220ish, which converts to like 300 amercian HP. :P

And the m3, not sure what can beat that, but... it still needs to go through certification, and its an older lookin body style IIRC.

Anythin?

Cilantro 05-03-2002 03:46 PM

DrewKole 05-03-2002 03:47 PM

bah @ audi TT.

audi - yes, audi TT - no. I don't particularly like them that much, too small with my lanky ass.

Alex From San Diego 05-03-2002 03:47 PM

Mercedes Only.....S Class or CL .....anything else is just a wind up toy.....lol

quiet 05-03-2002 03:52 PM

i'm looking at several new cars right now as well. the new m3, and the new 911 (probably the targa version coming out) are the most likely.

tough choices :)

Lev 05-03-2002 03:54 PM

I would definately go with M3, the car is sweeet

SetTheWorldonFire 05-03-2002 03:56 PM

2001 330i - 15 seconds

ace0r 05-03-2002 04:04 PM

the audi is worthless and a peice of shit unless you're a chick. The M3 is nice, but as you said its the older body. IS300 is too ricey. Go for the 330i

ahah. Funny :)
I was actually expecting you to say something more along the lines of "go get a neon and rice it up"

DrewKole 05-03-2002 07:25 PM

Thanks for the input guys. =) We'll see what kinda deals I can get tomorrow...

Btw, the 330i is a 01, there was a 99 328 I was lookin at, got me confused...

And wtf is this shit? BMW doesnt offer rebates/discounts/incentives on their new cars. Their warranty is 4/50000.

BMW Certified cars = 7year 100,000 bumper to bumper, with special financing rates.

Anyone else find this really fuckin weird? Cool as shit, Im in luck, but... fuckin weird. =)

Lane 05-03-2002 07:31 PM

i heard BMW 3-series breakdown quickly after a while

seven 05-03-2002 07:36 PM

Drew,
Didn't you just buy a car for rednecks:winkwink: Ford Mustang GT just about 6 months ago?

payrollpete 05-03-2002 07:48 PM

get a 5 series 2000 or 2001

black

lower it, smoke out the windows, put some nice chrome rims on it :)

now thats style !

znoz 05-03-2002 07:49 PM

if id have to chose betwhen these cars, it would be the M3.. but i would prefer saving up some more dough and going with alex.. mercedes produce CARS, bmw produce gocarts ;PP with a few exeptions..

If you really want a car, go visit amg germany!

hyper 05-03-2002 07:57 PM

Two Words

Subaru WRX

DrewKole 05-03-2002 08:01 PM

Heh seven, 9 months ago. =) 2001 mustang gt convertible, white/tan leather.

Fuckin pussies at ford made the new gt's a granny car with weak shifts.

3-series? First I've heard of them breaking down... they are the benchmark for the 30-40k luxury sedan facet.

Depending on how they can clean up that m3 for me, I may go with that... damn nice 0-60 and 1/4... can beat that stupid fuckin gt without breakin a sweat.

Minte 05-03-2002 08:05 PM

i actually preferred the body style of the pre-99's..the M3 is a fabulous machine...my next one will be the 2003 M3..either way..the 330I or the M3..you can't go wrong..

Ignore the man behind the suburu curtain.:winkwink:
get a real car...BMW

sasush 05-03-2002 08:06 PM

BMW's are the greatest!
:thumbsup

My boyfriend has a BMW 328 CI and it is a pretty sweet ride but he is selling it! I guess it is pretty high maintenance, we bought a boat and we can't tow it behind, plus we could damage it with all the wakeboards (in summer) and snowboards (in the winter) !
But it's true that it drives very well and kicks ass in the curves! :)
You should go for the 330 XI because it's fast and 4 wheel drive. You will be a happy man.

JakeR 05-03-2002 10:24 PM

Stay away from the IS300, trust me. Wife had hers for 4 months before I had to get rid of that piece of shit. The navigation is junk, and the car seemed to wear quickly. Out of the cars you listed, the 330 is the better bet.

drunkdollars 05-03-2002 10:28 PM

They are all nice but

Can any of them do this?????

The 98 M3 looks better than the new style of BMW's.

but the 98 doesn't house 333 hp

BJ 05-03-2002 11:20 PM

for 31k you can have one of these brand new and its quick, 6 speed. Acura CL type S

http://www.sex--site.net/mycar.jpg

I also strongly reccommend getting XM Satellite radio... It is one of the best things I ever bought... no need for cd's anymore.

Damn Minte, are we twins?
http://www.mrpheer.com/bmw.jpg
Almost identical, except mine is an '02.
Had it over a year now, not a single problem with it.

logic00 03-21-2003 02:18 PM

I can not believe you put that Junker (Lexus) :Graucho in the same category as BMW. If you are going to go for Lexus you better go for at least an "ES" anything else is a Toyota Corolla :1orglaugh .

Now between M3 and 330i I would go with 330i only because its a bit newer. M3 is a great ride but I think you can make 330 handle as great and you will have a newer car. :thumbsup

As far as an Audi don?t even look at the A4 If you want a true sports car go with S or RS (comming in 2004) Maybe A4 3.0. I have an A6 4.2 and stock it will rip any Lexus a new one M3 I am not sure about but did play with few 330 and 530 on the road they could not even keep up with my rear view mirror.:1orglaugh

Shok 03-21-2003 02:19 PM

a few grand extra you can pick up a 99-2000 540.
I wouldn't want a bimmer smaller than a 5 series. I mean the 3 series is a nice car, but for a tad bit more you get a whole lot more car. Not to mention that there is an entire subculture of E39 owners with some unbelievable mods....tons of tuning oppurtunities. Plus there are tons of 5 series out there with the M body option from the factory.
My first E39 spent alot of time in the shop for irritating shit, but the second one has been wonderful so far.

nocostporn 03-21-2003 02:23 PM

I have a 1978 BMW 530i. After 25 years it's looks like shit (not my fault) but runs fucking fantastic. BMW all the way.

Since this is a car thread, I'd like to know whether you guys think it's smarter to BUY a car as opposed to LEASING one. Since most of us are self-employed, car leases [and most other car-related expenses] can be written off... would this [and the fact that you only pay for the part of the car's life you actually use] justify a lease over a purchase?

playa 03-21-2003 02:27 PM

Lexus IS 300 is a girly car

FocusAdult 03-21-2003 02:28 PM

I have a 2001 330i and I love it to death.

Unfortunately, I'm overseas now, what with all the naked girls here in Budapest, and I don't drive mine. It sits at my parents house in Cali.

I'd sell it for the right price. :)

The car has been fantastic, but I did have a few problems with things like the blinker's having a short, and one headlight going out too soon, but other than that like a few people have said, it is a great ride.

There was a 3 month wait for the manual sport that I wanted so yes I have a faggoty automatic bmw. yes yes, I know..but as a single dad with a kid in the back seat it's easier to pay attention to whats going on in that child seat with an automatic, I found out.

Anyways, the mileage is good on the car, it's reliable, and I took it across country and loved every single mile of the trip, mostly because of the car.

was told this yesterday by my accountant...

doesnt really matter unless the cars primary use is for business...

so if its your primary automobile, you cant really say its primary use is for business.... second car you can probably get away with writing the lease off...
