Host with cologroup.com instead, they're better and cheaper.

yeah sure they allow adult content. But remember that their cheap servers are white boxes and they mostly don't perform very good...

AdultWire 05-03-2002 04:39 PM

ColoGroup is cheaper once you have real traffic on your web-server. I've spoken to Jason over ICQ, and I'm pretty sure I'll be moving to his site within the year.

Not sure about that other claim...
but we can claim this:
we are cheaper..here is how
Racksahck is $99 for 400 gigs and 1.50 for overages..and NO support.

We have 2Mb/s for $395 with server and our excellent support...that is up to 640 gigs.

Those same 640 gigs at rackshack would cost $399 with no support ....Where with us it is $395 with our support.

ColoGroup:

$300 Dedicated + 1MBps, full support, & .50 overages.
(And Jason is a great guy)

Fucking outstanding. :thumbsup

I am siding with amp on this one.
I have ordered a dedicated server at cologroup, icq's and phone calls with jason were friendly and he answered every one of my questions no matter how basic they were.
Thanks Jason

I get customers from Rackshack.com. They dont offer any support. That is what the extra $200 is for and it is well worth it. Another thing, our servers are better and configured for Adult Web Sites, TGPS, etc. Example, we have an Apache with hotlinking compiled as a feature as opposed to mod-rewrite, so the servers run faster.

Our only focus is on the adult industry and we do it proper for you.

Fletch

In one thread you give a thumbs up to cologroup

Another thread you say its your second day with them

Why do you feel pressure to confirm your own decisions, by recommending people to a company you know nothing about? :321GFY

I recommend my host, on occasion, because in 6 months he has fixed everything that I have thrown at him and its been a ride because I fuck about with things. :thumbsup

I picked a host about 2 years ago based on a few recommendations, turns out the host was a dickhead and the people posting just wanted to feel important.

If you want a host, ask the host for 3 or 4 hostees who have been there for 6 months and icq them.

Its so lame that people recommend stuff they really do not understand.

Ive had a rackshack server for a month now and know some who had them before and it appears like a great deal to me.

pings seem to be atleast average based on post hosts.

price is obviously cheap for starter boxes at $99/month 400 gb, control panel.

their control panels make it so easy to setup your server you don't need them except for firewall.

support has been very quick, never taking more than a couple days with a ticket.

I have 2 off site monitors on http that look every 15 minutes and havent got one notice yet.

but one difference I see between them and the packages above is they don't care when you use your bandwidth. you can use it in a day, or not all in a given month. thats real cool if you have an unplanned day of gallery posts or something.

as was mentioned you need to know what your doing bandwidth wise because of the overage, so it may not be for you if you use a ton of bandwidth. but if you did you can just get multiple servers.

I find their forums very usefull as far as setup of things.

their control panels are so easy to use I don't see a need for support. also I dont think you get any if you modify things at the prompt. but if you know how to do your own stuff you can still tweak it. if your hardware goes down that of course is replaced.

so i see it as a need thing. if you cant manage your own machine then you should go virtual, but if you can I cannot see whats wrong with rackshack at all and they are almost impossible to beat price wise right now. If you don't do disk heavy tasks their setups are very able to serve up tons of hits/daily.

Turboface 05-03-2002 10:42 PM

I have been with RackShack for almost a month now - and I'm not overly impressed. I have had outages - they have shitty server stats - their 'help' is not very helpful - and their java support chatroom is a joke.

Other than that, they're ok.
You get what you pay for.

:)

AdultWire 05-04-2002 01:09 AM

My only beef is their bad night-time support.

I find daytime support to be responsive.

Reboots are quick, as long as their ticketing system is working. Essentially, reboots are the only thing you should ever need to contact them for.. the scope of their support is fairly wide, but when I bought a server at RS prices, I did not expect any support outside of reboots. With that expectation in mind, they are quite good.

My freehost gets listed on the hun with some regularity, and I have never had problems handling the bandwidth that is obviously associated with that.
