Am I the only one that stopped using icq?

About a year ago I stopped using icq. I just found it extremely unproductive. Since then I never give out my icq number to people. What's funny is that I have people give me shit for not using icq as if I'm ignoring them.

Anybody else here not use icq?

btw if you have tried to reach me and wonder why i haven't replied to your icq, it's because I never got it. I'm not snubbing you. Email me at shap at twistys dot com if you want to reach me :thumbsup

baddog 03-24-2006 01:22 PM

I will give up ICQ when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

SomeCreep 03-24-2006 01:33 PM

I use ICQ, but not too often. I prefer email.

FUCK J0EL 03-24-2006 01:34 PM

Are you saying I'm bothering you at the moment ;)

s9ann0 03-24-2006 01:35 PM

I prefer email also, icq is getting to be very unproductive.

Sosa 03-24-2006 01:36 PM

Yo Shap, I'm all booked for a week on paradise island in a few months. Booking the little trips now. You sent me a email pry 6 months ago with some you thought would be good and I must have deleted it on accident.

Got any thoughts on some? Are there any nice dinner cruises or anything like that?

I wish I could follow your steps. With periodically vanishing contact lists, missed /dropped messages, and other glitches, I'm sure many would agree with me. Unfortunately, I can't. Most other webmasters still use ICQ so I'm stuck with athis dinosaur. The electronic equivalent of A Hyundai Excel on a freeway being constantly passed by Murcielagos.... :(

uno 03-24-2006 01:38 PM

Just admit it, you hate me.

CIVMatt 03-24-2006 02:10 PM

ICQ is a fucking joke and a spam filled idiot way to contact people nowadays

J$tyle$ 03-24-2006 02:11 PM

Can't do it but I often run invisible because it can be a pain in the ass.

It mostly increases productivity for me though

:2 cents:

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 03-24-2006 02:16 PM

i get lots of spam on icq.

eMonk 03-24-2006 02:17 PM

i like msn better then icq as an instant messenger. i use icq because you can send/receive messages when your offline/invisible.

Extreme Alex 03-24-2006 02:17 PM

I have it on my phone, it goes off constantly.

Donny 03-24-2006 02:18 PM

I prefer ICQ most of the time vs. email. Email spam filters often block messages I'm receiving or sending. ICQ does not. ICQ is always on here, even when I'm away. And ICQ history lists are just as good an archive as email.

King Adam 03-24-2006 02:19 PM

I have to say ICQ makes my life a bit easier. Most people use it and I get work done daily through it.

cathedra 03-24-2006 02:30 PM

I still use ICQ..and msn..and skype..ugh.

I agree. I find all instant messaging really distracting. when you've got work to do focus on it. if people can't wait a few hours for a reply by email, fuck 'em

KCat 03-24-2006 03:10 PM

I switched to a new computer over a year ago & decided not to reinstall ICQ. I much prefer email & found it too distracting. It seems like people just want to chat on ICQ, they never need anything specific. My chat history probably looked like this:

Hey what's up?
I'm working.

WiredGuy 03-24-2006 03:12 PM

Serious business inquiries for me are done via email for one simple reason, I want a log that's verifiable via IP addresses, not an ICQ text file. Otherwise, I just use ICQ to get a hold of someone to get their phone number or to setup meetings/appointments.

Anthony 03-24-2006 03:17 PM

Ummm, didn't we talk on ICQ like a month or two ago?!

:):):)

I knew it, it was a fake SHAP!!!

But I should have been in your list for the past 5 years or so.

cezam 03-24-2006 03:51 PM

I prefer Skype over ICQ.

Pornwolf 03-24-2006 03:59 PM

I don't chit chat. 97% of my ICQ conversations are direct, to the point and business related.

None of that, "What's up bro?"

No, "Did you see that funny link?"

Save that shit for someone else. I won't do that to you, and don't do it to me. But if you wanna talk business my ICQ is always on for you. Hell, it's even on my phone 24/7. Reach out, lets make some money. ;)

loverboy 03-24-2006 04:28 PM

i prefer email, but most adult webmasters use ICQ as the standard program.
only a few select gets to land on my ICQ lists, im always online. i may not
respond all the time since i get my hands full with other clients but dont
ever think you are less priority. everyone who wants to make business with
me deserves all the attention just like the rest.

Yeah, I am sure my clients would really appreciate it if I took that attitude.

ThumbLord 03-24-2006 04:54 PM

ICQ sucks, e-mail is the way to do business.
have only Mayor ( PC ) and some others ( 5 ) on ICQ that is all.

Babagirls 03-24-2006 05:06 PM

i havent used it (heavily) in years, but just like you Shap, i got the negative feedback of "you need to use icq...why arent you on it....blah blah blahhh" so i installed it. however, im on it like once every week or two just to check offline messages. i fuckin hate icq.

wyldblyss 03-24-2006 05:16 PM

I use it, but at times, damn, you can't get any work done because everyone is messaging you. If the messages are business related, that is fine, but sometimes it seems people are just bored and want to chat about nothing.

Deraj 03-24-2006 05:25 PM

lol.. i'm always busy.. and i still like chatting about nothing... isn't that the backbone of GFY ?

Hey whats your icq? I have some questions about twistys

RawAlex 03-24-2006 05:58 PM

I still have ICQ loaded, but it has been a long, long fucking time since I turned it on. I only do that when someone is desperately trying to reach me or me to them, otherwise it is off.

Alex

czarina 03-24-2006 06:00 PM

I still use it. Helps me make money., and that is all.

BlackCrayon 03-24-2006 06:05 PM

i never had much problem with icq once i switched to their "lite" version. less options but it gets the job done. i just leave myself in n/a mode all the time and respond when i have time.

yep, with things like hosting having someone you can get an instant response from (assuming they are around) when a problem arrises is a real plus.

SiMpLe 03-24-2006 06:18 PM

I just started last week not leaving it on 24/7 - Now I sign on in the mornings to answer them all and then shut it down around noon. The last week has been VERY productive. Should have done this a long time ago.

Spunky 03-24-2006 07:02 PM

Since most of my contacts use it..I can't see an alternative yet

You're right. I really enjoy being able to hit you up and get an immediate response.

GTS Mark 03-24-2006 11:20 PM

Haha i just re-installed ICQ because Trillian was a fucking disaster. :(

DH

madawgz 03-25-2006 12:08 AM

icq is the shit, wouldnt you rather message someone over icq instead of having a 100 emails sending back and forth

LOL

Dagwolf 03-25-2006 01:25 AM

I still use ICQ...

Icy 03-25-2006 05:03 AM

I use it but i'm almost always invisible. I have a big list of contacts that i answer as soon as they message me, that are old trades or webmasters i know since a few years ago. I know that when they message me is because they want to talk about trades or bussines and are direct about it.

Then there is the other kind of guys i usually don't answer, those who just say "Hi" (and then nothing more) or just "Want to trade?". If you want to trade with me and i don't know you, a good way of messaging me would be "Hi, i'm XXX the owner of xxx dot com and i would like to trade with your site xxx dot com" then i can review your site and decide if i want o trade or not. But if you are an unknown guy for me and just say "hi, want ot trade?" then i guess that you're just a guy who didn't read my trade rules or even which sites i own, you just got my ICQ from a webmaster board and randomly messaged me. I really hate when i'm asked to trade and then when i say yes you ask me which site i own, wtf? do your homework and contact the guys you really want to do business with, not just a random guy.

I used to be way more communicative in the past, but lost too much time so now i only answer the ppl i already know or the ones that state the business reason of their message when they contact me.
