domain appraisals question

hi, how are you? thanks for offering your opinion and experiences on the following:

prospective purchaser (who is qualified to some degree) demands manual appraisals which run about $40-$60 depending on the service.

i said fuck it and did it already but please share your thoughts and experiences here if you could. particular service providers are not the topic necessarily, moreso the issue that arises with sale prices and the etiquette..

possible scenarios:

split the difference +/- with the purchase.
require advance deposit prior to ordering the appraisal.
require purchaser to order and pay for the appraisal.
take a hard line and don't give an inch and tell them bye.

It's most likely a Scam :(

RRRED 03-23-2006 06:34 PM

That's retarded. Just ask some of your buddies who buy domains for an appraisal. Pardon my simple mind.

BTW if you have some really high end domains like $100Kish, let me know please cuz I have a handful of guys who keep bugging me for some. I'm not the best negotiator in the world but I've I'm not very intimidating so I've been doing pretty well at hooking some stuff up lately.

Did he tell you which 'service' he wanted you to use? hehehe Just asking cuz a few of us that put domains up on Sedo got the same type of 'offers with appraisal from **** Company only'.

exactly what i thought - he had a GREAT reference though -

I'm not so sure how accurate those things are. After all, a domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. So you could have a so-so domain, but if someone really wants it, they will pay what it takes to get it.

either he is also duped or he is in on it. either way a chargeback will be my pleasure for starters and we have remedies for this.

fun stuff.

Trixxxia 03-23-2006 07:44 PM

Yup - I was just going to say the site looked EXACTLY like the one that hit me up but the domain was different. Anyhow - he sent me to a 'forum' post where everyone is like 'thanks for the deal' 'awesome payment' 'escrow final' hehehehe

He almost got me though cuz that same week someone serious did hit me up for a domain but it took 4-5 days maybe in total for escrow to be finalized and funds in my account.

Brujah 03-23-2006 07:53 PM

The guy that contacted me for appraisals before buying was Wayne Schaefer, [email protected]

And a forum link also, that he recommended.

XPays 03-23-2006 08:11 PM

Mine was a Dr. LMAO and normally when I see Dr. in the email - I immediately think it's the banker from some wealthy African country with 42million to transfer out of some dead oil tycoon/ex-banker's non-claimed account ;) This one my domain in the subject so I opened it up :) His story was credible but I guess they had done a 'mass' offer mailing so checked reliable GFY and then decided to bust the guy's balls. He was replying though - I thougt it would have been automated but it wasn't.
