Affiliates registering mistyped sponsor paysite domains ?

Eg .. we have www.sexonsecuritycam.com and and someone grabbed sexonsecuritycamS.com ... but just sent it through with their affiliate id to our site. Personally we don't have a problem with it, and all power to them for grabbing it before us.

But what to other sponsors feel about when affiliates register mistyped domains, also what about when they send to your competition ??? :winkwink:

I know WM boards really get nasty, as do many of the larger tgps, but what about sponsor sites?

Opinions please. :)

It's fair game.

My feeling is if it's an affiliate using it to send traffic (and signups) to you, then it's okay. They're just picking up on traffic that you would be missing anyway, and sending it over to where it originally should have gone. (After all, you still make $$ off of it thanks to their efforts.)

If it's someone trying to obviously exploit the popularity of your site to send traffic to a competitor or their own crap (anything other than to your original site) then it's not okay... it's an exploitation of your brand.

Make sense?

i say be glad for it, you're still making money off it, what if some other cam site registered it? fair game IMO

Fair game. Plus that affiliate ran the risk of buying flop domains. I have a bunch of misspells that never did anything, so I lost out. I know I'm not the only one. Furthermore, I highly doubt the site name is trademarked so it isn't exactly illegal, though you could TOS it out of course.

Sometimes you don't think of obvious ones straight away, but this case was a no brainer :) Will brainstorm variables before the next site is advertised for sure.

Wiggles 03-23-2006 03:05 PM

fair game for all, i need to do the same for one of my sites.
