It saddens me that history will look back and go "man, what retards!"

Wars based on lies, religions based on aliens and being insane, a financial system largely based on credit lines, television showing "reality shows" which are based on unrealistic situations...

I really think that people in the future will think this is one of the stupidest times in history.

Sexsitesurfer 03-23-2006 08:48 AM

I fucking hate reality TV (my girlfriend loves it). It is the most contrived and boring shit ever. I think people will look back and scratch their heads trying to see the entertainment in it.

Religious institutions have always been about control and power. Before they were able to dictate to an ignorant flock to maintain control and now they try to justify themselves. They have adapted but still remain very separate from religious belief in my eyes. Caste systems, the selection of books to be in the bible and therefor the foundation of Christianity, Islamic misinterpretation of Haj, etc combined with infighting within religions is a joke...

I agree, lots of retarded stuff going around, but there always has been and I guess there always will be.

Sorry for the rant.

cool1 03-23-2006 08:52 AM

Yep this could be known as the retard era.

Platinum Mike 03-23-2006 08:56 AM

Great post...agreed.
Reality TV is the farthest thing from Reality there is.
Can't stand it.

wedouglas 03-23-2006 09:02 AM

It will happen until the end of mankind. Of course everything looks dumb when you look back on it.

I guess the only way to prevent ourselves from looking foolish, is to destroy the human race...

Quagmire 03-23-2006 09:07 AM

It doesn't matter what time period you look back on, they all look like backward simpletons. Thats the great thing about progress.

I don't think a single war in history was based on truth and justice when you get down to the actual facts and not what the storybook historic accounts say.

xclusive 03-23-2006 09:08 AM

Yup we are so fucked up right now it's not even funny

Yeah, but this scientology thing is just downright stupid... a religion based on the science fiction written by a noted science fiction author. What's next? Will "Jedi" become a real religion too?

Manowar 03-23-2006 09:34 AM

exactly.

moreover, there has been more technological advances in the last 100 yeas alone than all the years prior combined.

doesn't sound retarded to me

I would so much rather watch a show called "survivor" where they took people, stranded them on and island and made them SURVIVE...not give them a relay race to win an SUV, feed them shrimp and bugs and pretend that anyone has done something to survive!

I'm sure that people living in all the differing parts of history felt the same way. As Charles Dickens wrote "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times." Ultimately, it all depends on how you see things. While things may have sucked for Medieval monks, times were great for Saracens. While things may have sucked for Etruscans, times were looking great for Romans. It all depends on your perspective. There is no, IMHO, absolute "good" time or "bad time".

i thought you were going to comment on how adult affiliate programs have cornered themselves over the years by out doing each other to attract affiliates, and in the process drastically decreased their profits margins beyond the point of reclaimance.

Ditto.

I think a lot of these so-called 'reality shows' these days came about just after the last big actor's strike in Hollyweird. Studios got tired of pandering to their prima dona actors and looked for a new way to avoid dealing with them.

I'm not saying its the only reason, but I'm sure it was high on the minds of a lot of programming execs. Remember too - this was around the time all the cast of Friends banded together and demanded $1 million per episode EACH...or they threatened to walk.

p]mpdogg 03-23-2006 01:18 PM

I may be gay, but I love all of you!

stickyfingerz 03-23-2006 01:19 PM

As far as Bush and our leaders guess what. They said the same crap in the 80's too. Just wasnt so out there like it is now. No 24 hour news networks, no internet. Guess who was voted best President in history not too long ago. :winkwink: Thats right Ronald Reagan. :thumbsup

sherie 03-23-2006 01:37 PM

Oh and don't forget about who people are looking to for advice, the Oprah's and the Dr. Phils, the "Starting Overs"...et al....blah, what ever happend to the good old days...and I agree regarding the Scientology, I have never been able to wrap my head around how this ever came to be and how semi intellegent people have fallen for it....The episode of "South Park" that was cancelled on Comedy Central was great...I shall post a link to it if you haven't seen it.

You pretty much summed it up o general terms...

We could making something similar about pretty much everything, specialy this industry :2 cents:

well actually it is in europe, there were enough people who wrote it in to the census forms that it (according to the rules) must become a valid choice in the next census.

Sort of reminds me of the petition that this hour has 22 minutes had to get a referendum that would force stockwell day to legally change his name to doris. When that moron thought it was a good idea to require a referendum on an issue if 10% of the population signed a petition for a proposition.

Bob_cougar 03-24-2006 01:23 AM

i wonder what legacy shall we leave to the younger generations?

tony286 03-24-2006 01:26 AM

they love keeping the public dumb but making them think they are smart, a dumb public causes no problems

Choppa 03-24-2006 06:42 AM

most times in history could be seen as "retarded " in some way or form

look at the renaissance period where astronomers were made to recant their theories and take the churches view that the earth was flat, and that it was the centre of the universe.

and then even the salem witchunts where neighbours who wanted there neighbours land would say there a witch he he damn retarded if you ask me

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

This is very scary to me. How can people make proper voting decisions...when the news they are getting is so twisted... Last year, the Bush Admin. started producing their own fake "news" stories with a paid actor playing a reporter and feeding them to TV stations to help spin things their way. This sickened me to hear about. :(

On a personal level, some of the clothes styles I went along with in the 1980's was obviously retarded.

Yeah, and human race has never been this down, with low life incredibly idiot ppl, what saddens me that these ppl are often in leading positions, leading the lives of 1000s, and whole countries...

yep and disco of the 70's, totally retarded stuff

Canibal-7 03-24-2006 07:55 AM

I'm more worried about the present than the future. Without a doubt this is an age where everything is of very low quality: art, entertainment, lifestyle, and general taste. It's our own fault, of course, because everybody is content with what they have. There used to be a time when we could actually touch and control things, when the future was ours; now we have cellphones, computers and other gadgets that make us feel like we're in control of everything, but nothing could be farther from the truth.

And yes, reality TV sucks big time. I wish it would die.

Abithefiend 03-24-2006 07:58 AM

These are fucked up times I think.
The only reality show I bother watching is The Osbournes.

No offense, but that must be the stupidest reality show of all.

gentmaster 03-24-2006 08:01 AM

If it wasn't for religion and its anti-science, anti-education tryranny during the dark-ages, mankind would have landed on the moon centuries ago. :2 cents:
