Question about ADSL modems
I'm filling in for broadband. But I'm given the option of getting a free USB-ADSL modem.
Am I correct this is one of those crappy modems that has to use my USB port? |
Yes. 678
|
Yes u would be correct in the crappy aspect as usb speed is substantially slower than ethernet/lan 10/100. An ADSL Router with Lan ports are very fast.

dont
get a decent utp connected one |
USB for DSL?? Doesn't sound right. Should be connecting DSL with a Cat 5 cable using your ETHERNET/LAN connector.
|
USB for ADSL works fine in my experience. a USB card can transfer data faster than your DSL connection ever will, so it's not as if having an ethernet modem will make things any faster at all
|
Speedstream modems used by Sympatico in Canada have the option of both - there is a standard network connection, and there is also a USB / network connection.
Never us USB for network unless it is your only choice. Alex |
