Question... How Do 3 Day Trial Memberships Work?

I've been pushing RealityCash a bunch and have had a few signups for 3 day trials. My question is if they don't cancel does it turn into a signup? None of them have, so I am just wondering.

Thanks!

In theory, they would sign up, love your site, and convert to a full membership at the expiration of 3 days.

How they usually work is they sign up, rape your site w/ one of those site rip programs (unless you block them) and cancel their membership before the 3 days, and charge back the $3

I currently have a (limited) 2-day trial for sweetcarry.com which brings quite a few signups, as it's just $ 2.95. Truth to be told, most of them really just signup for the trial and then quit, but there are some who stay and convert to "real" memberships. I guess the trial-conversion-rate is currently at about 10-20%, depending on the traffic-quality.

Don't know if I keep this pricing scheme much longer, but I'll probably wait and see if the conversion rate increases when we add the webcam-chat and HD video content.

BTW: First post - just signed up ad GFY :)

regards,
Markus

You could limit the amount someone can download during the first 2 or 3 days after signing up - at least that's the way I do it...

So for these trials the affiliate only gets piad if after 3 days the surfer converts to a full signup?

I have a site that charges $9.95 for two days - in some ways (depending on your content) expensive trials are one way to go.

We put a 1 Gig limit on and throttle download progs. It changes to a full month trial after if they want. We get about 40 % sign ups for that - theres no way im giving full site access away for $3, about 30% rebill at the one month. If their too tight to pay either the trial or the month......fuck em, you cant get the content anywhere else.

It depends on what type of program the affiliate is pushing.

If they are pushing PPS with trials, then they get paid once, and that is when the trial is purchased.

If they are pushing revshare with trials, they get half the trial money, then half the signup if the trial does not cancel.

I hate revshare with trials, and do not actively promote programs that have no other option for the affiliate.

May I ask why?

I figured getting a few bucks is better than getting nothing at all, as the inhibitions to join the site are probably way lower. And if people like the site, the stay anyway and you get even more for that signup than you'd get if they signed up for a full account in the first place.

Then again I'm still a newbie webmaster, so I guess my opinion in this matter isn't worth much.

Markus

Your opinion is worth as much as anyone elses, in my eyes. Especially when it comes to the choices you make in how you want to do business. :)

Myself...and even if we are talking a $10 revshare trial that I'll make $5 off of...my opinion is that it is a better investment of my time to build for either pps or revshare with no trials. (I don't do alot of pps, only because I haven't found the right sponsor yet).

True, I might build for a no-trial revshare and not make a sale. But odds are I'm going to make at least 1 sale over the life of any gallery or freesite.

I hate seeing less then 2 for a sale

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't had anyone signup after a trial, but it really isn't in my hands at that point so I am not too worried about it. RealityCash has been doing quite well for me as I am still pretty new.

Thanks for all of the help, guys.

So how do programs afford $30-40 on trial signups if they only 25% convert to full memberships?

If I promoted revshare programs with trials exclusively I'd probably go broke and have to get a job... I'm not about to do that, so PPS it is. I'll let the affiliate programs do the numbers and averages for me.

Higher rebill prices, upsells in members areas, consoles on your traffic, cross-sells on join page, mailing members afterwards, etc etc... Lots of ways you can make money on top of basic trial > rebill.
