Breaking NEWS: City shuts down because, some guy has a gun somewhere out there

http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/...03/detail.html

Police have closed off most of the Golden Triangle and blocked highway exits to Downtown while they investigate a reported security concern on Wednesday afternoon.

The closure began at about 1 p.m. in the 500 block of Penn Avenue (click for map), between Heinz Hall and Stanwix Street, near the intersection with Cecil Way.

The police activity is centering around a building used by the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute. Years ago, the building was home to a Horne's department store.

Police have not confirmed any details of their investigation. According to a witness who spoke with WTAE Channel 4 Action News, a police officer said that a man with a gun may have been spotted in the building.

So in a country where we can bear arms, some guy with a gun who hasnt done anything and cant be found can shut down a city and fuck up bus routes?

Tom_PM 03-22-2006 01:26 PM

Sheesh, and it was a pellet gun..

stev0 03-22-2006 01:57 PM

Yet if that guy shot someone then you'd be bitching about the police not doing their job and protecting the citizens... people are hard to please.

Example # 7,381 why I moved out of the US. I have a carry permit that's reciprocal for Pennsylvania. So if that was me, legally carrying my Kimber .45 and my jacket happened to move too much or I bent over and my shirt pulled back too far and some rent-a-cop on a security camera saw it, they'd shut the city down to pounce on me? For what? So they could dig my CCW out of my wallet and get embarassed on national television?

What the FUCK is wrong with my country?

I'm a former Marine police officer and criminal investigator. I've carried nearly every day since I was 21, had a .12 gauge in my truck since I was 18 and am about to get my carry license here in Panama. My gun's saved my life twice and the lives of two other people.

I'll be damned if I'll live in a country where people are so irrationally scared of an inanimate object and so irrationally trusting of people and organizations who have stolen from them, lied to them, fucked them over repeatedly and kill their families without a second thought.

yes because trusting ignorant drunk rednecks is better. for every instance of "A gun save my life" I can find 10 instances of someone shooting another over the remote control.

Never owned a gun never will. Try breaking inot my house I kill you without a gun. Gun owner is also an owner of a small penis, FACT.

Why have laws against rape? Rapists don't onbey those laws? Same thing goes with murder and robbery. How stupid is it make a law saying you can't rob a bank if bank robbers are just going to rob the bank anyways. I you ban bank robbing then only criminals get to rob banks. This just isn't fair. I have rights you know.

dbavaria 03-22-2006 07:18 PM

If this happened in LA...

Did you just compare the right to own a gun with the right to rob a bank? :1orglaugh

They shut down part of a city over somebody carrying a pellet gun. Even in Canada you can have pellet guns and shot guns from what I have been told by Canadians. How does this situation prove anything other than a couple idiots overreacting to a perfectly normal day?

Granted the Police may have overreacted. But they showed up because of a call about a man firing a rifle. Not because someone noticed the handle of a gun sticking out of a jacket. There is a big difference.

Country we can bear arms?? Not for long if things keep going like this. The main reason for incidents like this is to condition people to following even the most ridiculous demands of the police.

No, I wouldnt. I do expect the police to do their job. Their job is to investigate crimes in a non-biased, fair and professional manner and gather evidence against the offender and present same to the DA for possible prosecution. Their job is not to prevent crime or protect people from themselves or even to be body gaurds for members of the public. Thats what a private security officer is hired by an entity desiring protection for.

Dont ever get the two roles confused, they are very different.
