Today is someone's birthday who is very special to me. Captain Kirk

Happy Birthdate Kirk

Today is James Tiberius Kirk's birthday. Well, technically it is. You see, as any self-respecting Trekkie will tell you, the captain of the starship Enterprise is not due to be born for another 227 years.

But when the momentous event occurs, it'll be right here on Earth. Not some distant planet like Pluto, or even one featured in the original Star Trek series such as Excalbia or Organia. James T. Kirk will be born in the eastern Iowa community of Riverside in America.

In the future, he'll be the legendary captain captured by Greeks, Klingons, Romulans, Romans, Nazis, gangsters and even hippies(!); he'll prove irresistible to women of every colour and genetic make-up across the galaxy, and as he ages, his hair will mysteriously thicken. We salute Captain James T. Kirk and present some of his finest pearls of wisdom.
Star Trek James T. Kirk Quotes

Like Star Wars' rogue Corellian pirate Han Solo, Captain Kirk oozed charm, sex appeal and charisma. He knew how to handle his ship, his crew and his women. Debates may rage on between fanboys about which of the two was cooler, but we'll concentrate on Kirk for now.

So on his birthdate, get closer to the man with our selection of quotes. And by the way, Kirk never said "Beam me up Scotty," but that hasn't stopped the phrase from making its way into pop culture. The closest we come to the immortal line is in Star Trek IV where Kirk says, "Scotty, beam me up."

"Worlds may change, galaxies disintegrate, but a woman always remains a woman." - From The Conscience Of The King, first aired in 1966

"We may go up in the biggest ball of fire since the last sun in these parts exploded. But we've got to take that one-in-ten-thousand chance!" - From The Naked Time, first aired in 1966
"I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space." - From feature film Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, released in 1986

"Spock, I think I'm in love with Edith Keeler!" - From The City On The Edge Of Forever, first aired in 1967

"Analysis, Mr. Spock?" - From Catspaw, first aired in 1967

"One of the advantages of being a captain is being able to ask for advice without necessarily having to take it." - From Dagger Of The Mind, first aired in 1966

"I've already got a female to worry about. Her name is the Enterprise." - From The Corbomite Manoeuvre, first aired in 1966

"Spock, the women on your planet are logical. No other planet in the galaxy can make that claim." - From Elaan Of Troyius, first aired in 1968

"Who put the tribbles in the quadrotriticale?" - From The Trouble With Tribbles, first aired in 1967

"Genius doesn't work on an assembly line basis. You can't simply say, 'Today I will be brilliant.'" - From The Ultimate Computer, first aired in 1968

Did you know that he was the first to have an interratial kiss on national tv in the US?

d_train 03-22-2006 06:13 PM

do they count birthdays per light years? :winkwink:

Rictor 03-22-2006 06:19 PM

I've been watching the 4 seasons of Enterprise. Watching the last show of season 4 today...never saw them all when they were on TV. It's a pretty good series...I'm gonna be said later tonight since I've now seen every episode of every Star Trek series and all the movies. I wish they were working on a new tv series but they aren't. :(
