The Internet And Children

All over the world different goveremnts are trying to come up with ways to stop children from veiwing porn on the internet, .xxx is the latest, here is my idea:

The only way we can stop children from viewing such sites starts at home with the parents or guardian of the children. The way I see it is, you have to be 18 to purchase cigarettes, you have to be 18 to enter a nightclub, you have to be 18 to drink alcohol, you have to be 18 to drive, why not make it that you have to be 18 to use the internet unsupervised, if your under 18 then you need to be supervised, this is the only way you are going to maintain some sort of control over the internet, people have to remember that it is the Internet that really controls this world and parents need to take more of an active role and supervise their children when they are surfing the internet.

Children have it far to easy in this day and age, instead of the parent letting there child sit on there butts all night talking to there friends on msn, why not send their child out to kick a ball in the street or read a book, children spend way to much time on the internet unsupervised, when they should be doing things that are better for them. I know for me if I was a parent, there is no way in this world I would let my children on the internet unsupervised.

I know most of you are going to tell me that this is the most stupidest ideas you have ever seen, but i think it would make a huge difference.

Actually your very right, a internet connection has no business being in a kids room. Chatrooms are much more harmful then naked pics

Here in Canada you can join the military at 17 - which legally entitles you to drink alcohol and smoke.

Just not surf the web for porn, huh? :1orglaugh

I have a near 14 year old son that wants me to hook up the second computer in the game room to the net, but I'm never gonna go that route.

I will let him sit on my computer to do his messager with his girls and whatever other things he wants to research, BUT I'm always in visible sight and I do have a monitoring program installed on the computer which takes screenshots and key logs, so I can do random checks to make sure that nothing bad is going on. He's fully aware of that, to help keep him in line. I did see one day he was using Limewire to get porn (he probably didn't believe that I knew everything he did, he he he). I did bring it up to him and ground him, since then, there hasn't been any foul play while he's been on.

As far as a solution to the problem. Why doesn't everyone put their heads together to make the most advanced (easiest to use) porn filter ever created and give it away as a free download and get ahold of the computer and OS makers to have that program a part of EVERY system made and then promote the hell outta it to make sure that every parent is aware of it. That'd definately cut back on a lot of stuff, however, I'm sure there's still the stupid parents that either wouldn't know how to set it up or wouldn't think their kids would do wrong on the computer.

Good idea, I agree with that dude minors are not allowed to view adult sites.

Evil Doer 03-21-2006 10:39 PM

From their point of view: Children being on the internet is not the problem, the problem is the porn

Too bad they won't try a domain extension for kids only... that seems more logical

That is really good to hear, if only all parents were like you.

Theres more parts of the internet that are kid-accessible than porn sites, maybe because porn is the minority it should have an xxx domain?

that is not getting to the core of the problem.

You have a very nice idea Batts. It is really the parents big reponsibility on guarding their kids against pornography but there are people who doesn't give a damn about this issue. All they do is just react if something bad happens and blame always the porn.

MrJazz99 03-22-2006 02:56 AM

Youre right there, internet must be supervised by an adult....but you can let them use msn and just block any browser thats on the computer since the kids likes to chat with their buddies the most...

maxxx_fucktor 03-22-2006 05:31 AM

parents should think of ways that would keep their kids from too much internet. at their early age, they should be actively participating in sports or some extra activities and internet should only be a means of research.

No the problem is lazy parents who themselves are ignorant of computers and the internet. Also Christians that think they can tell others how to live.

That is so true, a friend of mine has two kids 13 and 12 and as soon as they get home from school, the tv is turned on and they watch tv until dinner is served at the same time they have their laptops out using the wireless internet, then until 8 or 9 that night they are still watching tv and playing on the internet. Kids are very lazy in this day and age.

Problem being everything is a parental responsibility issue, if it was left up to me to decide if your minor child were to use the Internet, it would be much like using AOL.

Give the kiddies the .kids domain up until they are 16, and then give them a set of training wheels with the real Internet but filtering the hell out of the machine til they're 17-18.
