Affiliates, how do you feel about 6 month cookies?

I've seen discussions before about cookies. People want them set longer but how long is long enough? How long is too long?

Karups sites are set at 6 months. Pros and cons??

Trax 03-21-2006 01:59 PM

when it comes to the set date of cookies there is no such thing as too long
:)

btw RRRED is it possible to get PP gear? I would love a PartyPoker t-shirt :)

i dont think they will taste good. might have to dunk em in milk for a minute before you bite one of them babies.

Big sites promoting you guys will oove it.

Small guys will hate it.

I feel like I'm right there in between, and I don't like it either.

:1orglaugh

1 year should be good. Members that rejoin after cancelling usually does so within a year.. besides it doesn't cost anything to set cookies for whatever period then why not 1 year?

The more is the better for the bigger affiliates out there.

Forever would be best

lol bastard i was about to make a similar smart-ass comment :)

baddog 03-21-2006 02:17 PM

As long as they are packaged right and don't go stale, I am cool with it.

Girl Scout cookies last forever.

PMdave 03-21-2006 02:17 PM

I don't get the big vs small affiliate arguements... The cookie will be overwritten once the surfer visits trough another affiliate. Those cookies are just for type in tarffic and imho the last reffering webmaster is the one that convienced the surfer to join. So the longer the better.

Mine is set for 255 days...I'd set it for 365 if the system allowed me...

See sig.

Wait a minute...

Does it mean that if I send a surfer to ABCPORN.COM site, but let's say Wiredguy sent the same surfer to this site 3 months ago and he didn,t signed up, Wg will have the sale and not me ???

Excuse me, but I think this is totally unfair....

1 month would be ok :2 cents:

Nope, any proper affiliate program should reset the cookie with the new refcode as soon as it is clicked.

Cookie should only affect typeins.

That's what I always thought, newest cookie wins.

As far as the big guys vs. little guys affect, yeah the guys with better search rankings and more site reach will always cap off the little guys. Little guy introduces surfer to brand, and later on the big guy closes the deal...:2 cents:

Splum 03-27-2006 01:20 PM

Affiliate cookies should NEVER expire, all sponsors should do that, thanks for bringing up this issue I should go through all of my current sponsors and kick the ones out that dont set cookies for forever :)

shermo 03-27-2006 01:22 PM

The longer the better IMHO.

xclusive 03-27-2006 01:25 PM

a year is good

Pornopat 03-27-2006 01:31 PM

I would like to see an argument why thy should not be set to "forever"
