Why do people like Japanese Anime?
 

It is weird IMO.

There's tons of anime, some weird, some normal, some bad, some great.

The reason I like (some of) it is that it tends to be much more creative than western movies and television, both animated and real. It often breaks traditional conventions of storylines and filmmaking, while still managing to be very entertaining.

japan is alot less anal with what their kids watch, half the networks here are so pussy whipped its not even funny, check out real uncut anime, you'll see lots of blood, swearing, violence, people dying, aka reality! thats what kids in japan get to see and i see nothing wrong with it.

japanese anime characters possess more powers than western creations. i guess the answer has something to do with this.

their story not just for kids... but for grown up dudes... like "Initial D anime" the story is about street racing and cars. i like it..

You know all those subtle jokes they made in kids shows back in the day, that you only got when you watched them years later? Anime is like that... a whole lot of deeper meaning. They also typically spend a whole lot more time on the animation compared to cartoons released at the same time. As a result, people consider it much more of an "art form".

I should probably mention that I've helped staff and run anime conventions, making me a bigger dork than most people here. XD

Actually, anime is not specifically intended for kids, and quite a few anime are specifically not intended for kids.

Manga spawned a lot of anime movies, actually...
 

My last girlfriend created a published manga that's now syndicated in our local Sunday newspapers. Anime and manga is very up-and-coming due to its recent surge in popularity amongst younger people, probably because they're bored of the cookie-cutter bullshit that they're fed these days. I'm just glad that they've noticed.

Old cartoons were often so much better than what's around today, and anime is generally a step above most anything in terms of production value and character development. You guys remember Thundercats and shit like that, right?
