Why does every commercial need to have music?

I'm so sick of hearing these commercials with music:321GFY

Make a commercial with no sound at all it will get more attention over any commercial playing music. People will sit and think why is there no sound and look at the tv.

Because music takes advantage of affective appeal. Often the music in a commercial is designed to appeal to the productss target demographic. For example pick up trucks often make use of a country music theme. Adding an auditory experince to the add increases the likelyhood of the viewer to maintain the message of the commericial. Additionally long term memory is often encoded sematically as well as visually and in an auditory fashion increasing the likelyhood the target audience will remember the product.

exactly. simply put, the more senses we use, the greater retention of memory. in this case, the sense of sight and hearing are both at work. :winkwink: :winkwink:

i hate the way the sound is compressed in ads to make them louder than the shows - because they know people leave the room during ads

grrrrrrrrrrr

the most effective/annoying ad music right now has to be VONAGE - that tune gets stuck in my head all day

woo - ooo -o -o -ooooo

Thinking about why the commercial has no sound will do nothing, as they aren't thinking about the product, just the shitty commercial
