100gigs! haha

in australia I pay $149/month for 10GIGS a month!

and when you go over they cut you down to 64kbps.. i've already gone over...

I've been contempting suicide..

Trax 03-19-2006 01:50 AM

that would never been an option for a real webmaster downloading porn :winkwink:

KrisKross 03-19-2006 02:25 AM

they throttle your bandwith anyways.

stev0 03-19-2006 02:36 AM

every ISP has a limit... some enforce it more than others. I've been cut off once or twice.

Tell me about it, I pay around $250.00 a month for three accounts (with 3 Gig cap each).

WiredGuy 03-19-2006 02:38 AM

Even though that's what it says, its been my experience that they never enforce it. I have a couple servers at the office and home (both on Rogers) that easily hit over 10 gigs / day and never a problem.

They will take the throttle off? You using Bigpond (telstra)? I called them the other day and they wouldn't even let me pay to get it off... was quite weird..

xclusive 03-19-2006 06:46 AM

Ouch I've never been shut down like that, Hope it never happens.

Barefootsies 03-19-2006 06:52 AM

Nope. I've never had it either regardless of DSL/Cable whatever. I have a T1 now so I do not need to worry about it. However, I have heard that people in bigger cities have had that happen. Or particular companies do it, but I've never heard of it around here anyways.

:Oh crap

headless ghost 03-19-2006 08:41 AM

within the next year ISP's will charge by the gig for bandwidth.
will be interesting to see what the rates will be compared to a hosting company, and how much they will try to bullshit people on the cost.

avalanche 03-19-2006 09:51 AM

Cox has never capped us, but we were told they were looking at charging per gig due to so many home offices....

StatsJunky 03-19-2006 09:55 AM

I use Rogers Extreme and they have never throttled me. Might depend on were you live.

nightsurfing 03-19-2006 09:55 AM

I use Rogers and have never been capped. I am definitely over that limit virtually every month.

I believe there may be a cap on the "ultra - lite" or "lite" accounts though.

StatsJunky 03-19-2006 10:01 AM

Usage Details for this Period
Download Usage: 29,103 MB
Upload Usage: 8,141 MB
Total Usage: 37,244 MB
Service Includes: 102,400 MB

I've been extra busy this month and not even going to come close to the limit.

Manowar 03-19-2006 10:02 AM

mine don't :)

Sosa 03-19-2006 10:28 AM

No problems here for me on Qwest DSL

LadyMischief 03-19-2006 10:38 AM

They aren't the only ones.. so does Cogeco :(

sfera 03-19-2006 10:40 AM

thats no big deal

BlackCrayon 03-19-2006 11:45 AM

yeah, like most said they don't enforce it. the only time i've heard that they do is if others in your area complain of slow speeds or something. the thing i really hate about rogers is that they trottle bit torrent. if anyone knows a way around this, please post it.

For bittorrent, use port 1720. That's their VOIP port, and they cannot throttle it :pimp

Yeah, apparently it does depend on where you live, because they can't throttle certain parts of their network or something. If you check out the Rogers forum on DSLReports, it filled with people just bitching about Rogers, especially the throttling.

I was reading their FAQ about the caps. Their policy is that if you go over once in 12 months, they warn you. Second time in 12 months, they suspend you until you promise not to do it again and the third time, they cancel you. I'm sure they enforce it kinda half-assed, though. Like if you do 105 gigs, they won't say anything, but if you consistently hit 200 gigs, they might react.

Seems to me that 100 gigs is a hell of a lot, though. You'd have to be doing a fuckload of downloads. That's like 300 hour-long TV shows.

dream_state 04-13-2006 12:45 AM

It was 80 gigs and Rogers recently bumped it up to 100 gigs. I have the extreme service for $44.95 and have 6 meg down load speed and 1 meg upload speed. Compared with other places in the world we got it good here... and if you're not happy with Rogers there are plenty others you can use.

see.....

My isp have been charging extra by the gig for ever. Limits used to be 8 gb. Now they are 20, and they overcharge you as much as 40 $ per month (like 7$ per gig). After that, its unlimited.

Vitasoy 04-13-2006 02:15 AM

I've been warned a few times, but that's about it.

gecko 04-13-2006 04:12 AM

They put me on a ban for week in the past thats when I cancelled the connection

Jay_StandAhead 04-13-2006 04:21 AM

I'm paying $35 for 100mbits with no limit, and I have a seconday optical fiber 100mbits coming in in 2 weeks ($38/month for that one)

Canadian ISPs suck big time

God, 10Gigs/month? We are downloading 6-8 Gigs in 1 day.
That cap issue is nasty
