Is it wierd to email people and ask them to promote our site?
I was jut wondering if you all hated or were all right with people emailing you out of the blue asking to promote a site?
I have been using Arelis to find places to put links up for our site, and I come across TGP's and Blogs that I think our site would fit in nicely to....is it wierd if I cold email them and see if they will throw our links up? |
id prefer if you called me
and if you can put together a "webcam" style front end.. + like.. 20 mins worth of exclusive webcam footage i could work ya some traffic |
Jace I would not mind an e-mail from you, I just don't have that kind of traffic anymore.
If you want, you can still send me an e-mail, and I will just twist it all around and find a way for us to continue and improve our closet relationship. Miss you. :) |

i get icq's from companies all the time so i dont think its weird.

it's just like any other type of email solicitation. some will bite. some will hate it.

I don't think most would mind a single concise email explaining who you are, what you have to offer, and why you think a partnership would be beneficial to both parties. I know that I wouldn't.
Sure you'll have people scream "spammer", but idiots like these should be paid no mind. |

Spam is commercial email you didnt ask for to receive.. and what is he doing? |
of course it's a spam.

It should be perfectly normal business. When you work offline and call up a local company to let them know what you have to offer it's always well received. Online however you have these whiney ass retards that cry over every little detail and want to report you to 4040 organizations because you emailed them without their permission. Personally I'd email anyway and if anyone had a problem with it I would gladly ban their ass from even hitting my servers. I know you don't want to do this with an affiliate program but dealing with the idiots is way beyond me.

i tend to think of spam as bulk email...
a personal mail of a commercial nature seems appropriate. i mean if you are an adult webmaster, and another adult webmaster mails you, to me it seems like business as usual? just my :2 cents: |

The difference between someone visiting my site and contacting me individually regarding a partnership via a contact email found on my site and someone spidering my site for contact info and bulk mailing me and 18983234 other people regarding some penis pills I may or may not wish to purchase is plain as day. |
If it's unsolicited it's spam. Expect people to respond accordingly.

Technically the way you word it makes it sound like spam. Unsolicited e-mail, plan and simple.
However, if they have a contact e-mail on their site and your e-mail isn't too commercial sounding, I think you wouldn't have any problems. I get e-mails for my review site and I don't mind those that take time to request reviews and provide us with a temporary user/pass to take a look. So from an affiliate perspective, I would write out a custom e-mail for each site. Mention who you are with and that you were wondering if you could setup a time to chat on ICQ or phone. Maybe ask if they are looking to add new sites to their database. Drive-by spam can be annoying and impersonal. If you're looking to lock up some whales, I think they would respect an e-mail like that than someone sending a generic "Sign up with us" type mail. This stuff is really coming from mainstream though and some of the ways we used to grab new affiliates before a site took off. It's a little harder in adult but I think the same business principles apply. |
I dont mind it..
I get unsolicited link trade inquiries from time to time..my trade links all go to a basic page that prompts them to email me with trade requests. I dont use any auto trade scripts because I am pretty picky about who I trade with anyway. dont care for the unsolicited ICQ's and yahoo's IM's though..I generally dismiss those without a response. |
As long as the email its in english and makes sense Im ok with it.
I receive emails from some programs and altho I could guess what they want they're emails are pure crap you couldn't understand shit what they're saying. |

unsolicited IM's bother me to, I would never do that
as for the email. I am finding sites that are the same niche and selling the same type of site, and finding their contact info on the webmasters page and emailing them.....i mean, I am emailing you to make you some money, I guess there isn't much wrong with that, huh? haha and yes, I write each email out and talk about the site in question, and even give ideas if I have any pop into my head at the moment...so it isn't a form letter that I copy and paste :) |
