Big Bang Theory

Quote:

The Big Bang Theory is the dominant scientific theory about the origin of the universe. According to the big bang, the universe was created sometime between 10 billion and 20 billion years ago from a cosmic explosion that hurled matter and in all directions.

In 1927, the Belgian priest Georges Lemaître was the first to propose that the universe began with the explosion of a primeval atom. His proposal came after observing the red shift in distant nebulas by astronomers to a model of the universe based on relativity. Years later, Edwin Hubble found experimental evidence to help justify Lemaître's theory. He found that distant galaxies in every direction are going away from us with speeds proportional to their distance.

The big bang was initially suggested because it explains why distant galaxies are traveling away from us at great speeds. The theory also predicts the existence of cosmic background radiation (the glow left over from the explosion itself). The Big Bang Theory received its strongest confirmation when this radiation was discovered in 1964 by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, who later won the Nobel Prize for this discovery.

Although the Big Bang Theory is widely accepted, it probably will never be proved; consequentially, leaving a number of tough, unanswered questions.
Do you guys believe it?

After seeing a three piece Stephen Hawking's documentary on this and other subjects, I found myself thinking that this really isn't a theory, but almost a fact.

Are you guys familiar with Hawkings? What do you think of his studies? Big Bang?

Who knows what to believe. Seriously, with all the heated arguments around here NOBODY can prove anything one way or the other.

You're right. But I'm not asking anybody to prove anything, I just want to hear some different opinions o this subject.

Physicists announced Thursday that they now have the smoking gun that shows the universe went through extremely rapid expansion in the moments after the big bang, growing from the size of a marble to a volume larger than all of observable space in less than a trillion-trillionth of a second.

The discovery ? which involves an analysis of variations in the brightness of microwave radiation ? is the first direct evidence to support the two-decade-old theory that the universe went through what is called inflation.

Researchers found the evidence for inflation by looking at a faint glow that permeates the universe. That glow, known as the cosmic microwave background, was produced when the universe was about 300,000 years old ? long after inflation had done its work.

Earlier studies of WMAP data have determined that the universe is 13.7 billion years old, give or take a few hundred thousand years. WMAP also measured variations in the cosmic microwave background so huge that they stretch across the entire sky.

NO. is 3 now to get to 8 I need to add more.

45678 < 3 + 5 =s 8. Comprende? :winkwink:
