we've done worse though my buddy assed out on the couch during a late night party session and we drew all over his face had the captain morgan mustache and two black eyes.. we put peanut butter and jelly in his hair and then took pics of him with a hotdog with a condom on it in his mouth was fucking classic

Drinking to the point of passing out is childish and honestly telling me you do not respect yourselfm personally I would not do anything to him because it is a waste of my time, but I can not expect less mature people not to take advantage of his childishness. You are likewise correct on it not being a joke or funny, it isn't and it is not kinda trashy, it is completely trashy to drink to this point.

what happened to him was his friends showing him the consequences of his actions, weither they know it or not they are teaching a lesson on common sense and intelligent decision making. Unfortunately he probably will not learn his lesson, as things like this have been happening at parties for decades now and people STILL do it.

Do not feel sorry for him, he made a decision with prior knowledge of what could happen, do you often feel sorry for people who make bad decisions when the worst happens to them?
