There really are good people out there

Scary thing that just happened to me on my way home, but ended up in good hands...

Driving on the freeway, I noticed something was wrong with my tire. I got out and checked all 4, but didn?t notice anything, got back onto the freeway. About 2 minutes later driving in the middle lane of a 5 lane freeway my rear driver side tire explodes and my car started swerving, but I luckily kept control and pulled off to the shoulder. I get out expecting just a flat, but instead my tire is ripped off the rim.

So I'm stuck there on the shoulder of a pretty busy freeway, and it being rush hour time and all, people are doing 80mph in the slow lane. I got back in my car and waited for the cars to die down. I've seen a lot of cop videos where the officer gets clipped from an oncoming car and the thought of that scared the crap out of me. As I'm waiting in my car, a tow truck driver pulls up from behind me and I?m thinking maybe he's mistaking me for somebody else because I don?t need my car towed. He gets out and offers to help. Within 5 minutes, he jacked up my car, took off my rim and put on the spare. I offered to pay him, but he said "free of charge". A bad day turned into a good day. Maybe that tow truck guy was an angel. :1orglaugh

Btw, here's the aftermath of my tires.

Random acts of kindness still exist. Very nice. Glad you're okay.

wdsguy 03-14-2006 07:37 PM

Good for you, most tow truck drivers woulda charged.

Spunky 03-14-2006 07:39 PM

That was nice of him..99% of the people out there would just drive on by

Syl 03-14-2006 07:39 PM

Aww that's really a nice story. I always dread the thought of getting a flat tire since I don't know how to change them either.

The EXACT SAME THING happened to me in my WS6 about 2 weeks ago. Until then I had never seen a tire explode like that just leaving the 2 "sidewall rings". What kind (brand) of tire was it?

candyflip 03-14-2006 07:43 PM

I had the same thing happen to me last year.

Blowouts on the highway are pretty nerve racking.

Paul Waters 03-14-2006 07:43 PM

Man, you should have given him a blow job.

It is the least you could have done.

I know how to change a tire, I just meant I was waiting for the traffic to die down because there aint no way in hell I'm changing a tire while cars drive by doing 80mph :Hollering

And about the wheels, there Konig 18" with Falken tires. And yeah... its about time I get them replaced.

Very rare to find in Cali LOL

PixeLs 03-14-2006 08:31 PM

Did you get his name or even his number? :winkwink:

Damian_Maxcash 03-14-2006 08:43 PM

I do things like that sometimes - its goods for your Kama.

Now if you go and do something nice for someone else you could start a trend :)

A guy stopped to help an elderly lady that had a flat.. She wanted to pay, but he said just pass it on.. She went to a restaurant to eat and was waited on buy a very nice pregnant gal.. When she left, she left a large tip.. The waitress went home and told her hubby that everything would now be ok....
Her hubby was the guy that changed the woman's tire....

It's a song, but such is life in some situations...

Bob_cougar 03-14-2006 09:40 PM

the best way to thank that man is to pass on the good deed to another fellow.

DeloreanRider99 03-14-2006 10:26 PM

Ive told this to some people here in my city, and they it may be because the tow truck driver was part of the CHP plan. Basecially our state taxes pay for their service. If that's true, then its good to see my taxes are going to something useful.

And also, just before he got out to help me, he was writing something on a paper. Possibly my license plate # ?

what's important is you thank him..

je_rome 03-15-2006 12:11 AM

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. (Fables Aesop)

phogirl69 03-15-2006 12:14 AM

I dont know how to change tires at all, their too heavy, I saw someone change a tire once and I was afraid that if they didnt screw the silver bullet in deep enough the tire would come flying off once you start driving.

I always end up having to get it towend somewhere so they can change it for me.

pornguy 03-15-2006 12:14 AM

Nice thing to do for the random act of kindness is the simply " Pay it forward "
