who has cookies turned off so you lose your customers after two days?

any one notice this happeneing with some people?

check your traffic closely

SmokeyTheBear 03-13-2006 10:13 AM

huh ? how do you know they dont stop buying things. are you talking about sponsors ? affiliates ? sesame street ?

WiredGuy 03-13-2006 10:15 AM

I wouldn't promote an affiliate program if they relied solely on cookies for tracking.

I second that emotion!

here is the scenario...you send traffic to someone for months

and you stop and then just two days later..no more hits at all...nothing.

Why 03-13-2006 10:37 AM

iv noticed this with some programs. but i still get sales. but the hits dont seem to show. some of these sales even show refers on domains i dont own :)

im a tad confused , maybe i woke up to early.. your talking about sponsor programs right ?

Pardonn me for sounding foolish here , but if you stop sending hits then what were you wanting tracked ? like bookmarkers you mean or ?

Phoenix 03-13-2006 10:53 AM

maybe im the foolish one..it just seems odd that i could have sent traffic forever and no customers come back to that page.

lets say i send a customer to a site....most companies have it tracked so that if they come back the next day and buy a membership...i get the credit.

well that is not the case for some it seems

that is what i meant

Ian...yeah i see all kinds of wacky stuff in there..makes you go hmmmm

this is true but you would have to be sending an awful lot of hits to expect any "real" traffic to continue after you stop sending them traffic. Sure a few hits might trickle in , but i wouldn't think many

yeah im talking about tens of thousands of hits...and many sales

just caught my eye...and it caught the eye of my exit guy

WiredGuy 03-13-2006 11:05 AM

Well, I can't really see too many surfers bookmarking a paysite unless they become a member of it. When I cut traffic to a site, it usually means almost all hits stop entirely. Maybe a couple over the next day or two but generally when traffic is cut, that's it...

LOLOLOL

Thats what i was thinking to.

If i stop sending traffic to a sponsor, i really dont expect the traffic to continue hitting their tours, thats the whole point of not sending them any traffic isnt it?

Regards,

Lee

well fuck i guess i got OWNED as they say

however...when sending mas volumes of traffic somewhere...you should expect to see people revisit the site
you should see some hits beyond the instant you cut traffic

When you enter this sponsor site from your affiliate link, how long before the cookie is set to expire? I see some of the biggest cookie sponsors use 'End of Session' or expire the affiliate cookies in a couple of hours.

For a paysite? I can see this for a TGP since there's fresh new free content each day, but why would a surfer bookmark a paysite unless he became a member there?
