Someone hacked my OpenSRS account and stole my domains name

Has anyone had this happen to them.
They changed my login and start transfering out domains.

Any suggestions on how I can proceed with this. I don't think I can contact OpenSRS until 8AM EST.

Domains that i've had since 96 and up are gone.

AdultWebmaster.com
OfficeBuildings.com
VirtualFantatsy.com
and dozens of more.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll hook you up with Howard Neu. He specializes in domain theft.

Drop me an e-mail real quick with the list. We've also got GoDaddy contacts and they just helped get stolen names back.

Just called (480) 505-8877 and got a whole diff prompt system than the 1st time.

On hold now, estimate 8 mins

StatsJunky 03-12-2006 10:24 PM

I went thru this situation last year. ICQ me if you want any advice or help getting them back.

The aquiring registrar will more than likely lock the domain to prevent another transfer if you explain the situation to them.

Also make a post on DNforum.com and let them know to keep an eye out for anyone trying to sell them. Same goes for some of the other big forums.

ICANN needs to impose new rules on transfering

ilbb 03-13-2006 02:27 AM

that sucks

GeorgeK 03-13-2006 09:37 AM

Talk to Paul Karkas in Tucows/OpenSRS compliance, and he should be able to get the name back for you. The losing registrar can initiate a Transfer Dispute these days, which should expedite recovery of the domain.

Splum 03-13-2006 10:18 AM

Let uis know how it goes good luck to you.

Do you mean they hacked your OpenSRS reseller admin to get the domains unlocked or did the domain management account get hacked?

Hi,

This is the first chance i've had to get onto GFY today. I got up at 5:00am to catch opensrs when they opened. I spoke with Paul and he's been a big help.
He locked all the domains that haven't been transfered out yet, and set me up to get back into my account. He's working with GoDaddy to get AdultWebmaster.com back right now. Luckily most of the domains only had the info and dns changed. They never got transfered out. I still have about 20 more domains to check to make sure they wheren't transfered out, but so far so good.

Thanks to all for the advice on email, here and icq.

He hacked the reseller admin. Looks like he unlocked domains, changed contact and dns info and disabled the password reset tool.

I'd love to get in a room alone with whoever this was, for just 5 min

Manowar 03-13-2006 03:57 PM

Good to hear you got them back dude

Luc 03-13-2006 03:59 PM

You're VERY lucky bro. Once they get transfered to GoDaddy you are fucked because godaddy will tell you to get a lawyer and take them to court. They piss on customers who have had their domains stolen.

Congrats on the fast action. Looks like you saved yourself some headaches there!

Hopefully i'll be lucky. It's not back in my hands yet. He's working with GoDaddy and i haven't gotten an update yet.

I also got full control of my account again and went through the records, it looks like that was the only one that made it's way out of the account. The rest where altered but still in the account.

adultfora 03-13-2006 05:18 PM

Well, im not that an expert on domains, but..isent that kind of theft really retarded and stupid??

Its not like the domains will go away and it can also be traced to whom stolen them in the first place?

Well i think its the same as go into a 7-eleven with 45 cameras and first place your ID and face up to the cams for 5 seconds and then put an skimask over the head and rob the place :D

GeorgeK 03-13-2006 05:19 PM

Mike: Assuming you know what you're doing, you might want to create your own reseller account at Tucows/OpenSRS via:

http://resellers.tucows.com/

so that you don't have to worry about rogue resellers, or a reseller getting hacked, etc.

the thing is, they first steal these domains, place them in a godaddy account, then sell them. all in a matter of 2-3 days. most of these cocksuckers are in foreign countries like russia, ukraine, india, etc and they request to have the money sent via western union, which cannot be tracked.

it will take several months to get the domain back from godaddy in most situations, especially if the owner didn't notice that it was stolen right away. the guy who stole it can have the domain sold in 3 days to an unsuspecting buyer. so, the guy who bought the domains is the one who gets fucked, unless the original owner doesn't realize they were stolen.

7g.com, and a bunch of other domains were just sold on ebay for $x,xxx. all hijacked. it took a lot of detective work before people caught on.

it's stupid, but these cocksuckers will do anything for a few bucks.

adultfora 03-13-2006 05:53 PM

Okay, thank you for the answer, very informative :)

And yes this fuckers should be hanged up by there balls and lowered in a alligator pond.

tranza 03-13-2006 06:28 PM

good luck
