So. Here's my Problem. Changing clothes sizes every month!

Well, every month to six weeks, I'm changing sizes. I have rather expensive taste..BUT, it's such a waste to buy wonderful clothing when I'm going to be out of them in such a short time.

Where are the best places to shop in the NorthWest, that has name/designer brands....petite, of course....?

The Heron 03-11-2006 08:45 PM

Maybe try regulating your wieght? Fluctuations aren't usually a good sign.

You're just bragging, aren't you? :1orglaugh

Raven 03-11-2006 10:16 PM

Actually, I AM regulating my weight. Down. Working out and nutrition planning is changing my weight, one pound a week...and my body is changing shape, from obese to mini.....I have muscles now....so I bought size six last month and now I can take my jeans off without unzipping....it's a great feeling, and I do love to shop......so now, until I reach goal, you see my dilemma?

tony286 03-11-2006 10:25 PM

congrats to you :)

Raven 03-11-2006 10:27 PM

Well, thanks, Tony...got stores for me?

Nordstrom's Rack is great, as is Ross....any recommends?

cool1 03-11-2006 11:04 PM

I usually buy my clothes from a second hand store, when I am doing the lose weight get muscle thing

There's an idea...thanks...

try H&M, Bon Marche (which in some NW states has already changed to Bon-Macys) and when in a pinch, old navy is great for cheap stuff, cuz designers really arent worth the money for such a short wear. I just went through what youre doing now, and it cost me a TON until I realized old navy and even target has some cute stuff, especially if you are only going to wear it 3 or 4 times before you move on. Good luck to you!

MicroChick 03-12-2006 12:47 AM

If you can afford all those clothes, then find yourself an excellent seamtress. Have your favorite clothes altered, and then use her to make designer clothes for you.:thumbsup

Then, you know how I feel.....it's a bitch to lose the weight and work out to the tune of 60 pounds or so...and, then it's a bitch to buy clothes, only to find they don't fit in a month or so...

But, I gotta tell you. The thought of buying crap that falls apart after two or three washings offends my wallet, too...ya know?

But, you're right. Cheaper stores might just be the way to go at this point....and then once I hit goal in twelve pounds...and a million crunches...I can go back to the other way of shopping.

MicroChick - I tried the seamstress thing. Problem is, not only is my weight going down, my body shape is changing...so the brand that was okay before is not necessarily okay now..and, good seamstresses cost, too...

digifan 03-12-2006 08:38 AM

Congrats Raven, what a wonderful dilemma to be in.. well in most cases like yours :)

RobbieRye 03-12-2006 08:44 AM

I don't know about how it works for girls, but i know that tailored pants and shirts work well for guys.

ilbb 03-12-2006 09:01 AM

try moving in fitness :)

WarChild 03-12-2006 09:40 AM

1 Pound a week? That's kind of slow weight loss. Put your heart in to it already.

Wordsforhire 03-12-2006 09:55 AM

I wish I had your dilemma, do you think it can be contagious?

For permanent weight loss, it's the recommended method.

At the same time, I am toning my muscles and replacing fat with muscle, so my metabolism works properly. My nutritional plan is geared for a slow and steady weight loss...it took more than ten months to gain the weight; so, it stands to reason that it may take a year to take it all off.

Studies have shown that weight loss that occurs to quickly puts too much stress on the body and can cause subsequent damage to vital organs....I agree with this method of permanence...and, believe it. My heart IS in it. I work out six days a week, three of which involve weight lifting and resistance training. My calories are very regulated and I have strength and muscle tone now.

Sure. Move to Washington..hire my ex Navy heartless Seal for a trainer...eat the food the way he wants me to.....in the proper combination for efficient metabolism......and work out six days a week. Guaranteed results. :)

I still need stores, so I can buy clothes for Phoenix....that don't swim on me.

Stick to less expensive clothes till you reach your goal then go on a KICK ASS spending spree....

I was just teasing you, but it's hard to communicate that on the Internet. Especially since I didn't use any smilies or anything.

Dropping weight steadily week after week takes some real work, I know all about it. January 1st I was 235 pounds. Today I'm 197 pounds (back to fighting weight) in just about 10 weeks exactly.

This is what I do personally:

3 - 1 hour weight sessions per week with personal trainer
4 - 2 hour Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Sessions per week
6 - 1 hour cardio days per week.
2000 calories, less than 30 grams of fat and more than 150 grams of protein per day.

Luckily I'm just about done crash dieting now myself and I can get back to eating a little more, can't wait actually.

Anyway, keep up the good work and don't forget to reward yourself everynow and then, you've earned it.

mikeyddddd 03-12-2006 10:24 AM

Just go naked and really show off those toned muscles.

Having re read what you said, I realise that you were teasing, even without the smilies...I'm a little off my game, apparently...'cause I didn't quite see it this morning....I AM jealous that you're able to do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu....there aren't any in my area.....

Your regimen is close to mine....three times a week with the trainer....the one who has no sympathy, no empathy, does not back down and actually INSISTS I do things HIS way....

I only do cardio five days a week because I am told to rest one day a week.

I do start kickboxing on Thursday....just to see if I like it. Not as if I'm going into competition, but I really do feel the need to hit something, rather than some one.....

My calories are a little less than yours, but then again, I am less than you, both in height and weight. Plus, damn you, men lose weight more easily than women....my trainer allows my honey, Tev, to lose two pounds a week, which he does. Easily.

And, may I add, in all seriousness....that I am very proud of your efforts. Having been there, actually still there...it's tough, it's hard.....and really requires a level of commitment bordering on insanity.

I really believe I am somewhat insane for doing it this way, for I have come to love it and thrive on being sore six days a week...

Mad props to you!

What a liar. There's no way in hell I'm gonna believe all this unless you send me naked pictures.

Preferably, by this evening.

PamiebDVD 03-12-2006 11:37 AM

Congratulations Raven!

I did what you're doing last year. I totally get your frustration with clothes.

I'm not sure where you're located, but there is a Columbia outlet store in Sellwood, OR that ROCKS! It's not just outerwear. The've got casual clothes with Target prices, but great quality.

I don't have the exact address or the phone number, but the area it's located is: SE 13th Ave, between Bybee Blvd and Tacoma St
Portland, OR 97202.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for "Lady Godiva" in Phoenix. :)

Morgan 03-12-2006 11:38 AM

just get them 5 sizes too big, so you can grow into them.

Yeah, men do seem to lose weight with greater ease. I actually have a pretty fast base metabolism, it's just I was eating large pizzas for dinner and stuff for awhile so things kind of got out of control. :)

I know what you mean about the sore 6 days a week, but it feels great. Wouldn't have it any other way. The bruises from BJJ probably wouldn't be missed so much though.

You'll really enjoy the kick boxing and it's an excellent aerobic exercise. You can even replace some pure cardio with it, eventually, to keep yourself from getting bored. I know after about 30 minutes on the bike I'm usually bored silly. BJJ is more of a resistance training with a minor cardio portion. Heart rate goes up and down a lot.

There are so many YOYO dieters in my life that I would like to take them to their own private island. 95% of those who lose weight will gain it back. Those are the facts. Raven, you are doing everything exactly right. Why screw up your metabolism by losing too quickly. Everyone wants a fast fix. Nobody thinks about the future when you hit your 40's and you see all the sun damage from your youth, diabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and a 100 other medical problems because you haven't taken care of your health.

Screw the cutesy new clothes. Wear something comfortable that will tide you over until you reach your goals. Become a female Howard Hughes. Live in lounging PJ's and loose fitting jogging outfits. Both will tolerate weight gain and loss.

Raven 03-12-2006 03:27 PM

Yeah, but Howard Hughes was a recluse. I am hardly that. :)

I don't change my clothes that fast. They usuallmy stay with me for a year or even more. Well, I guess Morgan's suggestion is right. Get something big enough for you to use for months. :)

d_train 03-12-2006 06:53 PM

I have one pair of jeans that I have been wearing since 1997.

Raven 03-12-2006 08:20 PM

Well, jeans are like that. Find a favourite pair and wear them 'til they fall off.

What kind of Freudian slip did I make ????? I meant *female Hugh Hefner* with the pajama's...and he has a very nice wardrobe for outside the Mansion activities.

Raven 03-12-2006 11:19 PM

Female Hugh Hefner.....surrounded by buff play boys. I'm down for that.

tristan_D 03-13-2006 02:09 AM

buy clothes that are a bit larger. that's what my sister does to her kids who grew up very fast

Teodora 03-13-2006 02:26 AM

are u putting on weight constantly? don't cause later u won't be able to get rid of it... actually i know a very good diet, my friend and my sister and a lot of other people was successful with it. And the most important thing that u are not starving while u're doing it and the result comes very suddenly!

Bob_cougar 03-13-2006 04:15 AM

that's the downside of weight-loss or waight-gain... one has to do away with his/her old clothes.

perhaps, that's the reason im not into weight-loss programs lately.

SkyWalker2k 03-13-2006 06:09 AM

hope I can get my act together to loose some weight soon :D

CDSmith 03-13-2006 06:59 AM

Solution: wear sweats. Once you're at your target size/weight then you buy new clothes.

Sweats are stretchy, comfortable, and if you work from home then what the hell, they're just the ticket.

Go velvet like George Costanza.

Raven 03-13-2006 08:02 AM

CD. All I wear are work out clothes....sweat kinda.....these are breathable so I don't chafe....for an every day solution, I've got that one down. Guess I should have mentioned that part.

I travel. Can't wear workout clothes to Phoenix. It's HOT there. or MIAMI. It's only fit for gills.

Teodora. I am losing weight at a pound a week. Have lost 60 pounds since May, 2005. While I'm thrilled at finally getting to be me again, I change clothing sizes. Read the first post of the thread....

je_rome 03-14-2006 03:21 AM

you should be proud that your shirt size is changing. how many pounds have you gained and lost this month?

This month? Well, it's only the 13th or so, so two so far...pound a week. It's the weight training and resistance training that changes my body shape.....and, believe me I am proud. It's just a pain in the ass when buying clothes and being a material girl.
