I just got back from Cancun (Mayan Coast) and the beach is FUCKED UP!!!! [PICS]

Stayed in Playa and I tell you the beach is all messed up. Concrete is everywhere, construction is still going on in virtually every hotel. The beach itself moved about 100 feet closer and some really nice properties lost virtually all of its beach. Royal Hideaway where we usually stay is still closed?

Is Tulum OK? I've wondered about this ever since the hurricanes hit, but never really heard much.

Probably about the same. Look how much sand the hurricanes washed away and what?s left of the beach.. That wall on the picture is whats holding up the main swimming pool. Before, the beach was 100 yards away?

Those black things are not Cuban submarines, they are giant sand bags to protect newly build wall from waives? I was shocked when I saw that. Before you can walk for miles.. but not now.

Cancun is all built way too close to the beach, and as a result, storm erosion is more than enough to basically remove the beach entirely.

They will have to do what they did in Miami / Hollywood, which is reclaim the sand and dump it back where there is suppose to be a beach. There is no other way to fix it.

Wow that is really sad to see, I'm glad we decided to wait to take our next biz trip there.

slapass 03-11-2006 09:44 PM

Were you in the hotel district or is that far from Cancun proper?

Its Mayan Cost, about 45 minutes away from Cancun, but from what I hear its the same everywhere in that "Cancun" area. Hurricanes destroyed so much it is hard to describe. Everywhere you step there are man made blocks of concrete, tile, some glass, and other garbage?

Sosa 03-11-2006 11:10 PM

sucks with all that rebuilding they have to do there.

spunkmaster 03-11-2006 11:17 PM

It's Bush's fault !

spunky99 03-12-2006 02:42 AM

that sucks bout royal hideaway.. i plan on goin there eventually.. says they're reopening soon on their site

je_rome 03-13-2006 01:31 AM

sorry to hear that... but the horizon is breathtaking, nonetheless

alec 03-13-2006 03:47 AM

Oh my, that fine looking sand is so enticing man! :)

Teodora 03-13-2006 07:48 AM

They were saying on one of the travel reviews that that is exactly what they are doing and expect to have it completed by the end of May. Thats a hell of a lot of coast line to repair...
