Hosting movie files on AOL Accounts
I'm curious to know your guys opinion on people who host movie files on AOL accounts rather than paid, legal hosting. I think it is a bad idea for people to use AOL as their server for movies due to the fact that that is bandwidth theft. Albeit the fact that AOL is a corporate monster, stealing is stealing. If you have beef against them, see them in court -- don't be an ass and still a few dozen GB of b/w.
The MGP biz would be a lot easier to make money in if we didnt have assholes like these people abusing non-adult non-high traffic accounts to host their movies. -eru |
I think its the movie TGPs that shouldn't support these guys by posting their galleries when the movies are hosted on AOL or shaw.ca or tera.es
There are plenty of honest gallery builders out there, support the honest ones, not the cheaters. If they're willing to cheat someone else, they're willing to cheat you. Don't give them the chance! |
Its an age old problem, where to host a file 1mb+ on a site that gets 200k + /day the free host that fixes this problem will be very rich... :2 cents:
|
Yea, it pisses me off to see galleries that have movies hosted on AOL and Co. get higher listing than me. I host my movies on a ColoGroup server and its fast as hell and it's legit. And if someone hotlinks, I can give them a pleasant surprise =D

I'd rather approve a movie gallery hosted on Aol because it has a 3 - 4 mb movie usually.... then a stupid need4xxx gallery that has 6, 250k clips
|
Satan,
Are you saying a freehost that offers 1mb mpegs would make a killing? They would need to have VERY aggressive ads in the headers and footers... plus they would be a HUGE target for hotlinkers... I mean how many outgoing links on a freehost would that take 6-10 probably.. :2 cents: |

What is this "pleasant surprise" that you give hotlinkers? |
take 5 minutes and do something like this :)
http://xdb.shax.ru/movies/?limit=10&offset=0 check out the judsmovies section, click on a movie too :) |

There used to be a free host which did this once, it had pre-paid bandwidth for 1yr, I know they made a killing but once their bandwidth deal ran out.. the server closed. They had a file size limmit of 5mb. Can't remember the name.. hmm |

Thats fucking hilarious, just wait until he sees that. Fucking russian cheaters. |

The fact that it's not profitable to give away 1MB movies doesn't really indicate anything is broken to me. There's nothing to fix. |

Fix = A place to host large movie files for free... Whats so hard to understand? Its been done before, and I believe it will soon be solved by a large company that can afford to host in this manner. (bandwidth continues to get cheaper) |
Only this industry could attract people who think that is a problem.
|
5mb movie files is insane!
I was considering allowing 1mb movie files on my freehost, but what's the point - these guys want 3-5mb so they won't use it... Besides most of the content hosted on aol, terra, ans shaw accounts is stolen content and no freehost wants that :p I'll stick with 350kb... |
RIP
JUSTON.COM best leeching free host I'd ever seen, maybee that is the one he's talking about |

If it was easy to do, every free host would do it... :winkwink: |

if you think it's great to have 1mb sized movies and submit them to movieposts, why don't you go ahead and pay for your own hosting and see how great it is? ok, I'll open a freehost that allows 1mb file size movies, but I get 10 header/footer links and get to redirect 1 of every 5 US/Canadian surfers and all foreign surfers.....and 33% of all the webmaster links have to point to a sponsor with MY sponsor code.... then I might even make a few dollars on it...... |

But I like the sound of your deal! your on!! Where do I upload? :1orglaugh |
Maybe if the freehost had a way to insert their ad in the beginning in and end of each movie for like 3-5 seconds.

people who host movies on their own server can definitely be seen as more reliable and more professional
if theyre posting movies on AOL, terra.es - there is no consistency, the movies can be taken down any time.. it all about having control and know what type of server everything is on |
ISnt that against aol rules anyway? Hell I have the name "Hot Tropical Sex" and have been in trouble for that!
bastards LOL |
Rackshack.net have a 10mbps unmetered dedicated package for $399 a month, I dont know if I would host my main pages there due to the lack of support, but at that price you could get with a few friends and serve movies to your hearts content.

We only want to serve up 1 to 5 MB movies to 200k people a day if someone else is paying for it. |

My freehost will host movies up to 1Mb. I just need to find a better freehost script. The one I am using right now is total crap.
