Have you ever bought a top TGP listing?

I'm considering buying a top TGP listing to see if I make any more sales from it than just a regular listing.

What are your experiences? Is it really worth it?

picpile 04-28-2002 11:30 AM

what does it cost?

vidsweb 04-28-2002 11:32 AM

The TGPs I'm considering charge between $200 and $300 to be the top link for the day.

So, I would have to make at least 6 sales on top of the sales that I normally make from that TGP just to break even.

Rice_Master 04-28-2002 11:36 AM

ARE you crazy? why would you pay for a spot and banwidth at the same time....why not just give them the money...

x3m 04-28-2002 11:46 AM

It should not be too difficult to figure it out if you know the increase of traffic that you will get from the paid listing as compared to the regular listing, providing that you know your CTR and conversion ratios. :)

I did a paid listing with one major tgp and it did not do any wonders for me but I made a few bucks of profit from it.

You should send the traffic to something more substantial than a TGP.

I wasn't talking about sending traffic to a TGP, I'm talking about buying the top link on a TGP for a given day.

BrettJ 04-28-2002 12:46 PM

I have - it's hit and miss. I've found smaller sites with premium placement to work better.

realed 04-28-2002 12:48 PM

It really depends on the TGP, the quality of your galleries and what niche you are into....

I think a top spot at www.thehun.com costs about $300 and the traffic is generally good for more sites.... but you must consider the bandwidth cost too....

If I was you I would look into some smaller TGP's that deal specifically with your niche... the convertions should be a shit load better....

Hope that helps...

If you can post an example gallery I would be glad to offer some suggestions :-)

Cheers

Thanks for the info, but I don't need to post an example gallery, my galleries are fine. I'm just wondering if people who have bought top listings think its worth it.

It's only a few buck, give it a try for yourself. then you will know if it works for you and your style of sites. Not all traffic and/or advertising works the same for everyone.

Pipecrew 04-28-2002 01:23 PM

Top spot on the Hun is 500, not 300 :)

15th spot is like 300

Oh sorry about that. One of these days I will actually take the time to read and think before I reply. Anyway, buying TGP traffic doesnt seem like a good idea.
You can easily get 50,000 hits or so just by putting up a half decent gallery. So why pay for that same traffic on top of your bandwidth costs.
Have you thought about buying payperclick from google? With their new proggie you can buy specific search terms and pay per click (not just per impression).

Martin 04-28-2002 01:38 PM

Hun Spots are $200 each but, you got to buy 10 spots at a time.. Spots in the top 5 are more... I made some good cash on thehun..

Biggy2 04-28-2002 02:08 PM

make sure the TGP is credible!

i tried buying listings once and it was a huge scam, luckily i got my money back by disputing it with the CC...

Catalinas 04-28-2002 02:34 PM

I bought the top spot on the Hun one time several years ago and did very well. I bought a way too expensive listing on Easypic for the month and didn't make one dime. I admit, the Easypic one was a stupid decision, but I was looking for easy traffic. I would say the Hun is worth it if you have something that's not over exposed to their surfers.

beemk 04-28-2002 10:02 PM

most places overcharge for their listings. what places have decent priced listings out there? the only one i found was pinkworld.

The Truth 04-28-2002 10:50 PM

If you're confident in your galleries then go for it. Just make sure to watch the #'s real close so you'll know if it's worth doing again. Sometimes I find a lower spot actually helps sales tho. Surfers starting to surf a giant list usually get at least half way thru it before they feel the need to buy something. I know personaly, I have had a few spomsors that actually get up to twice the signups on day 2 of a hun listing than on day 1. Just a little food for thought.

Good Luck !

Traffic quality aside (we'll assume the traffic quality is good/ok/whatever), how many hits do you think a TGP should be getting before they can sell listings? I'm not talking about 500 dolllar listings either, more like.. 10-20 bucks per day each for the top 10?

realed 04-29-2002 02:58 AM

The hun traffic is good... nobody can deny that.... if you have the cash available then you should definitely try a listing...

In terms of how much traffic before you can sell listings - I would say that doesn't matter too much.... it's the quality of the traffic that counts more....

For example, you could get 5 sales from a listing on a GOOD 50k TGP and 0 sales from a listing on a 500k TGP...

I think quality of traffic and relevancy of niche is more important than overall traffic numbers....

I would start selling when your TGP gets to 100,000 uniques/day

realed 04-29-2002 03:09 AM

yes you did what? - buy a hun listing that didn't work?

Maybe it's your galleries?

What TGP did you buy the top listing from?

cat 04-29-2002 03:39 AM

the hun,

i hosted the gallerie on my own server, got three sign ups.
My gallerie was'nt too good though.
I think with a very good gallerie , a new sponsor, freehosting etc you can make a few bucks (pocketmoney)
