Movie software

What's a good movie editing program under $300? I need something to make mpegs. I could care less about avi, quicktime and shit like that. Currently, I'm using Studio DV from Pinaccle and it sucks! It keeps crashing!! I heard Adobe Premiere is good... any advice?

Have Adobe put MPEG output into Premiere? I had to buy the MegaPEG plug-in for that. That would raise the price quite a bit. :winkwink:
