Warning: Beware Of Registerfly.com

it's a long, drawn out story, but i'll try and keep it simple.

first off, i use registerfly to store doman names i don't want to develope yet
then redirect them to different affiliate programs. my regular registra is about $12.99 per year and registerfly is only $8.99 per year. 4 bucks cheaper each year.

of course they send me emails when renenewals are due, but i ignore them, because at the beginning of each month, i go into ALL of my registras and renew my domain names, just like i make my morgage and car payments. MONTHLY!!!

one day toward the end of the month of feb., i started getting emails requesting domain name transfers. after i started to freak out briefly, i disapproved the transfers and went right into my registerfly account.
normally i RENEW my domain names at the beginning of each month,
but i deceided to do them right away. (early)

so i renewed all the domain names that were due for the month of march.
after i renewed them, i got a confirmation message saying all is well and my domain names will be renewed for one year.

so i logged out not thinking anything about it, because it takes a day or two for the changes to be made. a few days later, i went back into my account at registerfly and noticed the changes were not made. the names i renewed still had exp. dates of 3/11/06 and 3/25/06.

so i made out a service ticket asking why my domain names were not renewed as of yet. they tell me..."oh we share the work load with another registra and your changes will be made before the exp. date don't worry." blah blah blah

right then and there, i knew something wasn't right. so i went to my MAIN registra where i keep my premium names (the real money makers) and put in a transfer of all the domain names i wanted out of my registerfly account.

all of them went through after a couple of days except the 6 domain names someone tried to transfer. i went back into my registerfly account to check to see if the renewals were made and they weren't.

i checked the whois data base and then checked the admin info in my registerfly account and this is what i found for the names someone tried to transfer:

(these are just a few samples)

i don't see my name or email address at all in the whois.
all i see is registerfly and ENOM. ENOM?????

now, according to my MAIN registra, all 6 are pending approval with a date of 3/11/06.

So NOW, i am playing the waiting game to see how this all unfolds. 2 domain names that are NOT part of the 6 i really want were REJECTED!!!

so will these 6 names i want also be rejected???
i have no choice but to wait and see. i should know by 3/11/06

i'll keep you posted!!!

That's really shitty. I have a couple of domains due to expire this month at registerfly and I have already recieved a couple of reminders. Hopefully I won't have any probs :Oh crap

LiveDose 03-09-2006 01:22 PM

Tha's nuts. Good looking out. You can't trust anyone these days. There is no reason why you shouldn't recover the names.

blackfeet 03-09-2006 01:33 PM

that's NOT the only time i had a problem with them.

one time, they registered a domain name, placed it in my account and sent me a renewal notice. i just ignored it and it expired.

dirty bastards...

Babagirls 03-09-2006 01:35 PM

ive had my share of problems as well, me being charged with renewed domains but the domains not renweing. not to mention their customer service is a fuckin joke.

same here. it was a .info domain that was placed in my account.

Violetta 03-09-2006 01:36 PM

I think registerfly has been through some changes and that is what causing the problems! I had a pretty similar problem. I tried to renew a domain, but it got denied every time. I mailed them like 10 times, and finally, the LAST day they got it renewed. Freaked me out...

Nydahl 03-09-2006 01:43 PM

I registered 1 domain with them - all they did was charge my CC and nothing else
Also they spamm me since then every 2nd day
they are just cheap fuckers and thiefs

Nothing was wrong with your domain renewals, all you had to do was click the link in the email to get an answer as to why you were getting transfer requests:

"We have a new renewal process in place as of 2/1. Previously RegisterFly.com used multiple providers to handle our backend domain name registrations. We are now consolidating from multiple providers into RegisterFly.com directly. When you submit a renewal request we will be requesting the transfer from the different providers directly to RegisterFly.com, inc an ICANN acredited registrar. When the name transfers over (usually in a day or so) the full year will be added to your domain name. Your site and settings will remain unchanged during this transition. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our support department at [email protected]"

Also, Registerfly is just a reseller for Enom. No need to freak out, as the info said, the year added will be reflected in your registerfly account once the transfer has been concluded.

morruga 03-09-2006 02:58 PM

good luck with those domains pal...

crockett 03-09-2006 03:01 PM

read your e-mails and you wouldn't have this problem.. :2 cents:

someone requested a transfer of those domain names BEFORE i even thought about renewing them for the month of march.

so why would i approve a transfer/ renewal when i didn't even enter my account to renew them as of yet in the first place?

why not send an email EXPLAINING the confusion or leave some kind of note inside the users account?

also, can you explain why a .info domain name was added to my account when i never even registerd it in the first place? then you guys sent me an emailing asking me to renew it for another year? if you check the thread, you'll see it happened to someone else! not just me.

after you guys did that to me, what am i to think when there is confusion regarding my renewing or transferring of my domain names. And then NOT seeing my name as owner in the whois data base at all?!?

why some domain names and not ALL of them in my account?

just let me have my domain names (renew and/or transfered) and we can leave it at that. then i'll come back to the board and let EVERYONE know that all is well once again with registerfly.

DigitalPimp 03-09-2006 05:39 PM

Whatever happens, do not do an account refresh if you have registered or renewed/transfered names after 2/1. :2 cents:

Thanks for the heads up!

Not sure who you are referring to by "you guys", but I don't work for registerfly. I renewed 3 domains a couple days ago and got an email with a link explaining the new renewal process. Also, in the past, Registerfly had a promo where they gave everyone the .info domain for any domains you owned if the .info was available. You weren't obligated to renew the .info, the email was just a reminder if you did want to renew it.

"We have a new renewal process in place as of 2/1"

lazy cash quote.

blackfeet 03-09-2006 11:07 PM

then where was my email notification or any type of notice?

the only email i got was..."do you approve this transfer...yes or no?"

was i supposed to say yes (approve) when i NEVER asked for a transfer or renewal in the first place?

damn...

Hentaikid 03-10-2006 05:26 AM

They are consolidating, so when you renew it gets transferred to whatever registrar account they're using now, it's still extended.

But they suck in all sorts of ways, I've been double billed, billed without the renewal going through, their admin is slow as molasses and I keep getting logged out so I'm transferring all my domains away from them one by one.

Summary: They suck.

I think that we should open one topic specially for cheaters and place all warnings there.

My case exactly.

I wrote a bitch message telling them that their process was confusing, and I had even forwarded the original transfer request asking them if it was legit, or if it was an attempt to steal the domain. Never heard back on either message.

Does any register other than ENOM or an ENOM reseller ever have free transfer promotions? I'll move all my domains immediately. I hate sloppy customer service, or the total lack of it in this case.

minusonebit 03-26-2006 12:33 PM

Fuck, I think I'd just sue them now, if the domains are worth that kind of effort.

Dirty fucks. Thanks for the warning, I'll never use them.

how will you proove that? :(

nexcom28 03-26-2006 12:53 PM

Personally I hate registerfly and I would never ever recommend them to anyone or use them ever again. They are shit, there customer support is shit and I would suggest if you have domains registered with them now you move them ASAP because registerfly will shit on you..

HorseShit 03-26-2006 12:56 PM

this thread is old people.. read the fucking date/time first

czarina 03-26-2006 12:56 PM

those ENOM people are royal fuckers (excuse my language)! I made a website for a friend as a birthday gift, and bought the domain under his name (at his request). A year or so later, I went to show the site to one of my clients, and voila! the domain name was now in use by one of those pay per click link farms, and registered to ENOM.
I was so pissed!!!

I don't give a flying fuck if it'd old, the thread is still relevant. I have been struggling to keep hold of my most important domain for the last couple of weeks...

Listen, you're the stupid fuck that uses registerfly, you should kill yourself while you're ahead

lazycash 03-28-2006 11:21 PM

I've been using Registerfly for six years and have registered over 500 domains through them and their new renewal process has been my only negative experience with them. Whats been happening this last month is that when I renew a domain, it initiates an internal transfer before the domain is renewed. The problem has been that some of the internal transfers have gotten rejected making the domain not renew. I called them and they said to re initiate the renewal, which has worked. Problem is that its been a pain in the ass monitoring them and re renewing those that have problems. Funny thing is that for each initial renewal that doesn't go through, they have been double refunding my account.

Phil 03-28-2006 11:28 PM

thats fucked up. I had the same problem with godaddy once

emthree 03-29-2006 02:19 AM

Having a fuckload of problems renewing my domains with them right now.
They're leaving enom, and enom is giving them a hard time with the names.

This is basically what was happening with me. They eventually renewed the domain 5 days after it had expired although the whois info was wrong for a couple of day after as well..
