Unlocking cellphones

Anyone familiar with this stuff? I bought a Razor on a 'pay as you go' plan specifically to use in Europe when I travel since I needed a gsm or quad band. Now Cingular won't allow me to roam internationally unless I am in a contract plan. I already have 3 cellphone contracts and don't need another. So I want to either use one of the services online to unlock the sucker or send it back and just get an unlocked phone from ebay. I'd rather not go through the hassel of returning the phone.

Any information on this would be appreciated.

love to know how to unlock my treo - there are services for like $17 on ebay to unlock treo650s, got mine out here in Manila, but I'm going to need to unlock a few to use US pay-as-u-go for phoenix and other shows in the future.

In Spain, you can go into almost any cell phone store or even many convenience stores and get your phone unlocked for about 10 to 20 Euros. maybe just wait till you get over to europe. i've gotten them unlocked several times, pretty easy.

FYI, lots of the features on the Treo (like the Blackberry) are carrier-specific. So if you unlock your Treo and use it in the US, you'll be able to make calls and send SMS, but you probably won't be able to go online, receive email, use IM, etc.

Thanks for the links and info. Interesting.

Ben do they use some type of equipment to do this or are they able to unlock it some other way? I'd be willing to wait. My main thing is that I don't want to mess up the phone as the last thing I need is to be wasting time figuring out how to reset the phone with firmware etc. if there is a problem.
