Producing Your Own Movies...good news
Y'know I've toyed with making movies. It just seemed so damn complex but then some friends brought it up again. I work in comic books and that stuff always sells. Sci-Fi and Horror. I have lots of friends now who work in movies and some of them are famous.
Today one of them just gave me the real deal on how he went from start to good loot. It wasn't that difficult. In the old days you had problems with distributors etc. but nowadays because of DVDs and rentals you WILL make your money back even if the film is a piece of shit. When I found out the budgets on some of the movies that are in the stores and theatres I was shocked. I didn't know you could actually shoot movies for under $100k. Of course you ask yourself, there are movies that cost $80 million to make and ain't worth shit. Yet some movies like 'Walk The Line' only cost a few million $ and made a mint. Why? Good quality control, talent, story. Bottom line. So since I get asked to create stuff for films and have properties optioned often I said 'wtf? why not make me and my pals money doing our own stuff?' When I first wondered about film while in college they didn't have VCRs or DVDs or the internet. You couldn't even get funding. Nowadays funding isn't the problem, distribution isn't the problem, things have gone all the way back to square one meaning: Talent and professionalism. That's it! Having been out here in Hollywood for 6 years now I know why so many movies and tv shows suck: No talent, and the talent that is here has a tough time getting recognized. I know a guy, worked with him long while back. He has tons of money. Can make his own movies etc. and has about as much talent as a broke legged possum on a pine stump. Don'tcha' just hate it when God gives money to no talent bums? So it's really looking good for filmmaking nowadays if you have the talent and professionalism. |
