Seth Godin, Google and Trust (video)

Those of you who are curious how Trust Marketing is taking shape inside Google will appreciate this video shot last week on campus...

http://profitlabinc.com/PROFITBLOG/2...-google-trust/

It's long (48 minutes) but worth the watch, if only to begin to get a picture of just how transformative Trust is going to be to all of e-commerce very soon -- :)

cool...watching it now:

"technology gives you a shot at marketing"

RawAlex 03-06-2006 07:17 PM

Sadly he is still spewing the same sort of thing that has been spewed for any number of years "Permission give you the chance to market". What he never mentions is that abusing that permission loses you that chance.

Ask AOL, they had to get rid of all those freaking popup messages because they were abusing the permission and trust that their members had put on them. As a company such as Google moves to put more advertising and more paid links into their results, they get closer and closer to abusing and losing the trust and permission.

Permission marketting as a concept has been around in books since probably 1997, and was taken futher and abused more by Christopher Locke in his solo book Gonzo Marketing (he co wrote Cluetrain Manifesto). These guys are not wrong, but they have not learned the lesson that adult people for the most part have already learned.

Interesting ideas for sure, he is a very knowledgable man... but he could still learn a thing or two from the adult business :)
