Crash Crashes the Oscar Party!
I am so excited that the predicted didn't occur at the Academy Awards tonight. Crash winning Best Picture stunned everyone in the crowd. You could see Director Paul Haggis mouth the words Oh My God when he realized his picture won.
Anyone who enjoys great filmaking and hasn't seen this terrific, poiginant and topical film owes it to themselves to grab a copy. It's on DVD now. The movie poses real social issues that face each and every one of us on a daily basis, displayed in a way that requires self examination and reflection by all of us. Just a terrific movie IMO. I thought Brokeback Moutain was preordained to win and even though it was a worthy film, I think Crash more than deserved the Oscar. |
well said...i'm going to watch Crash again just for the fuck of it.

I saw Crash and liked it, but I dunno about Best Picture of the Year.

Crash was good but way overrated.
Real social issues that face everyone on a daily basis? I think not. It was extremely exaggerated. It was entertaining, but definitely not this highly intellectual movie everyone tries making it out to be. |

"Crash" felt like a remake of "Grand Canyon" but overall I thought it was a really good movie.
I haven't seen Brokeback, but from what I've been hearing, if it was an Indie film it would be a normal film. But because it's big budget with "real" actors, Hollywood is getting all self-congratulatory on finally recognizing gay cultre. |

:1orglaugh That whole movie was like a PSA blaming everyone for being racist. It was bull shit. The characters in that movie were off the wall. I know racist people and none of them act anything remotely like the characters in Crash. A rookie cop has huge problems with his partner being racist and then later on in the day kills some black kid because he's jumpy? Come on... that was ridiculous. Especially after his little display with the other cops and black director, totally off the wall. That doesn't happen. That rookie cop was the combination of many different people. |
I think the academy went for the film that would speak about America, a country torned by racism, social and moral degradation, and political unrest.

Maybe they had to put in more coincidences and character traits than is "real" to get the point across in 2 hours.
I liked the film and the fact that everyone I know who saw it was ready to discuss race issues afterwards. It seems to open up discussion and make people confront assumptions they have made in the past. I think it deserved Best Picture if it can do this. |
