I think its about time for him to get honored after incredible performances in The Talented Mr. Ripley and Magnolia.

Watch out for him in Mission Impossible 3 as the main villain

Gentle_Ben 03-06-2006 03:39 AM

such an underrated actor, i hope he doesnt become too mainstream though now

Dirty Dane 03-06-2006 03:43 AM

Yes he deserved it and finally got an Oscar.

He was really awesome in Boogie Nights. I think many people here can identify themself with his sleazy role in that movie :1orglaugh :) :Oh crap

nick1980 03-06-2006 04:16 AM

This guy played his role very well. He deserves that awards.

just a little info:

Hoffman was born in Fairport, New York to a former Xerox executive and Marilyn O'Connor, a family court judge. His father was Protestant and his mother was Catholic, but he was not raised heavily in either religion.

His brother is screenwriter Gordy Hoffman, who scripted the 2002 film Love Liza, in which Philip starred.

He entered the prestigious undergraduate training program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and received his BFA in drama in 1989.

Hoffman is in a relationship with costume designer Mimi Ohahaha180;Donnell. The couple have a son, Cooper Alexander, born in 2003.

I was disapointed he didn't bark his speach like he said he would. He was excellent in Capote. That was a really hard choice this year though so many strong male leads. I would have been happy for any of them to win it.

He was also the only actor worth watching in Magnolia. That was where I really noticed him.

Wiggles 03-06-2006 07:54 AM

he is an amazing actor, can't wait to see him in MI:3.

Fuck, he was in "Cold Mountain"?

That had to be one of the corniest lines ever read out (by Nicole Kidman): "Come back to cold mountain..."

I always crack up when i hear that line.

:1orglaugh

He always plays great characters.

Boobie Nights and The Big Lewbowski are two that I always recall.

We've had lots of coverage on him over the past few weeks, as he's from Rochester.

tungsten 03-06-2006 08:18 AM

big lewbowski is classic

I think he's going to OWN that fucking role. He's such a great actor, its good to see him getting a huge role in a blockbuster movie. Watch out Cruise, you're sharing the screen with someone who can act circles around you.

I love his speech; especially that part when he acknowledged his mom's sacrifices while raising him and his three siblings alone.

tristan_D 03-07-2006 01:32 AM

I remember the first time I saw him in Scent of a Woman. I found his character there stronger compared to the sissy Chris O' Donnell

gecko 03-07-2006 10:18 AM

Grats to him
