the oscars - my review

I have never watched the Oscars, because I am not one to bother going to the theatre, however, I decided to turn it on this year solely because Jon Stewart was hosting.

All in all, I won't bother watching again . . . I think he bombed. Can't wait for the King of the Hill to come on.

RawAlex 03-05-2006 06:31 PM

Actually, you are missing it... as it is going along, he is getting into the swing of it and the one liners are nice.... Ben Stiller in a green unitard was, well, interesting.

I'm sitting in a hotel in LA watching it - it's not that bad. I think Jon is doing an ok job :thumbsup

Donny 03-05-2006 06:35 PM

I'm enjoying it.

Why are you sitting in a hotel room watching TV?

That is what caused me to tune the TV to the Weather Channel. Is more entertaining.

Babagirls 03-05-2006 06:44 PM

how can you review something that is still on?

I live in San Diego and drive up to LA on Sunday nights so I can shoot for Twistys on Monday and Tuesdays. Got in about 4:30 and thought I'd watch the awards and fuck around on my laptop. :winkwink:

LOL cuz he's gonna be around naked chicks plenty tomorrow

Axeman 03-05-2006 07:07 PM

I like Jon Stewart, so I am finding it quite funny, but its certainly missing with the crowd.

My main question is what the hell is Charlize Theron wearing..... my god.

I was thinking the same thing - what a hottie she is.... but my eye kept going to that gob of fabric on her left shoulder :(

Matt Collins 03-05-2006 07:12 PM

I like Jon Stewart and I also think he's getting better as the show goes on. There were a few good jokes in the beginning.

I do think this is a show dying for Tivo. You can cut out all the crap and get the whole 3 hours down to 20 good minutes!!

Let's just say the Academy Awards live audience doesn't appreciate him as much as the Daily Show live audience does

Yep.. He's out of his element..

I'm sure if he could let go it'd be a different story, but he said in earlier interviews that he didn't want to risk ruining what the actors were there for..
so he's probably having to bite his tongue throughout..

They are the stuffiest awards in America. These are the most popular drug addicts, homosexuals and white collar criminals in the world, yet they pretend to be all snobby and classy for this night.

I don't get it.

milan 03-05-2006 07:45 PM

Boaring crap as always!

trix 03-05-2006 07:48 PM

I just watch it for the clothes, jewelry, hair, shoes, but then I am a girl. I couldn't tell you who won the last few years even though I watch it obsessively.

2HousePlague 03-05-2006 07:49 PM

I always shake my head when I watch...

Each year they bring on some Guest Celebrity Host...

Each yeat they hope that - somehow - the "currency value" of this person will bestow "currency" upon the awards...

Each year, the censors reduce the mighta-been-great performance to homogeneous schlock...

I laff.

I normally avoid award shows and read the recaps on blogs, but I tuned in for Jon Stewart and I thinks he's done a good job. But then I like Jon Stewart and I "get" him and his sense of humor. And I want to swallow his children.

KRL 03-05-2006 08:39 PM

Will Smith was funny.

Bansheelinks 03-05-2006 08:54 PM

King Kong winning 3 awards.......

gets a big :thumbsup from me

as does Philip Seymor Hoffman

J$tyle$ 03-05-2006 09:30 PM

I missed most of the show but the last 15 minutes

I'm glad that CRASH won for movie of the year because it IS an awesome flick - but WTF?

That cast was incredible and they weren't even thanked by the producers ... WEAK!

I agree. I haven't seen Capote, but I've seen many of his other movies and he's a great actor. King Kong was a great movie and deserved many awards. Crash was pretty good. I don't know about Best Picture good though. I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain, so I don't know how good it is, but I was expecting it to win because of all the hype and it's controversial content. I have seen Munich and Good Night and Good Luck and both are good movies. I think out of the movies I've seen, I would personally pick either King Kong or Munich for Best Picture. King Kong type movies rarely get best picture though.... I can't say I like that rap pimp song and wonder why it won.

It was a super cast but I was so shocked it won that I hardly listened to the acceptance speech.
I'm so glad it won. It deserved it.

I am sorry, but that came across very gay. ;)

reynold 03-06-2006 03:09 AM

Jon Stewart was okay, but not as hilarious as I can remember when Steve Martin hosted the show. It was 2001 I think, year when Julia Roberts won
