Video streaming on Linux boxes (WMV)?!
I'm working on a quite big video project. Now i'm in the phase to choose my OS. Normally i only run Linux, Unix or Solaris. Anyways my client dont want the users to download the videos.
I'm looking into the WMV format of M$ , i think it the best option in therms of quality and multiple bitrates. Is it possible to stream this format (WMV) from a linux box ? I really dont want to setup a dedicated Windblows box for the videos. Any suggestions ?? :BangBang: M$ Thnx |
it depends on how you stream it
if they are pre-made wmv you can. if you are talking about LIVE streaming you need to visit sourceforge.net and search for streaming video |
I have the original content on miniDV...
So if i create WMV, how can i stream them from linux ? |

You can stream premade .wmv files from a linux server. Nothing to it actually, all you need is a link to the file from your html page and windows media player does the rest :)
I'm doing this in my members area with no trouble at all but of course you have to make sure you have the bandwitch for it. |
Yes, i know but i dont think that solves my main problem. The videos must be protected from download... My client wants that. not me. Kind of weird thought in fact, cause we're gonna be a content provider as well ...
