Lets compare the living comfort of different cities.

1.) When are the shops closing in your city?
2.) When are the banks closing in your city?
3.) How many shops are open 24/7?
4.) How many big shopping malls are open 24/7?
5.) When are the multicinemas closing?
6.) When are the fitness centers closing?

let me start with Bratislava:
1.) 9:00PM
2.) 9:00PM
3.) plenty, but most sell only food and similar stuff
4.) 3 big that I know about
5.) about 1:00AM
6.) about 11:00PM

Do they actually do any transactions past 5pm to begin with? I know of banks that have longer opening hours on certain days, to meet the demand from people with late office hours, but the transaction orders received then aren't actually carried out until the next office day.

In Stakroge
1.) 18:00
2.) There is none
3.) Whaaat? Luxury, the ONE store in our city close 18:00
4.) Whaaat? Luxury, the ONE store in our city close 18:00
5.) A cinema?? Most of our neighbors got a garden tractor if that is what you are reffering to
6.) I got a 1st floor in my house, so I "stair walk" at least 2 times per day, enough for me. Also I DRIVE my son to day nursery, it is 600 meters from where I live, do you honestly think I would know anything about fitness centers :winkwink:

Some transactions from the evening(don't know the exact time) are carried over to next day, for example wires to different banks.

Now I see why do you prefer money by paypal(under your nick). :)

psili 03-04-2006 08:57 AM

Don't mean to be a dick, but what do the opening / closing hours of businesses have to do with "living comfort" ?

I bet some of the shittiest, gang / drug / death infested cities in America have comparable business hours to what you mentioned, plus a shitload of all-night liquor stores. But there's no way in hell I'd call those places comfortable to live.

because if you dont sit in the front of computer the whole day, things that you can do outside are important :)

No clue about gang / drug / death infested cities, so lets compare cities with none of those problems.

K. then.

1.) When are the shops closing in your city? = Some around 6pm, others around 10 pm.
2.) When are the banks closing in your city? = Dude. I live in the US, thus the phrase "Do you have banker's hours?". 9 - 5.
3.) How many shops are open 24/7? = Just a couple, like 7/11.
4.) How many big shopping malls are open 24/7? = None.
5.) When are the multicinemas closing? = 1am, 2am - depends on the movie and it's "new" status.
6.) When are the fitness centers closing? = our city doesn't have a 24-hour fitness center, but there's at least one a city away.

v4 media 03-04-2006 09:44 AM

.) When are the shops closing in your city? 9.30 -10
2.) When are the banks closing in your city? I do everything over the web or use atms. never go into the banks
3.) How many shops are open 24/7? 7-11 type stores 2 or 3 within 5 minute drive
4.) How many big shopping malls are open 24/7? none
5.) When are the multicinemas closing? 3am
6.) When are the fitness centers closing? around 12

Trax 03-04-2006 10:09 AM

i dont quite agree with your living comfort criterias
i dont give a rats ass about bank opening hours
:winkwink:

Rhesus 03-04-2006 10:12 AM

Damn, is that what you determine the comfort of your city with?

Rhesus 03-04-2006 10:16 AM

I'd say
- Real estate prices
- Climate
- Atmosphere, consisting of cultural life, frienliness of inhabitants, % of corporate managers walking around, ethnicities present and the extent to which they live together harmoniously, crime,...
- You name it!

Quotealex 03-04-2006 10:29 AM

Kristian 03-04-2006 10:34 AM

Just the pubs.

I kind of agree.

I live in a not-so-big-town in Colorado. North of Denver. My house is kitty-corner from a church in a residential neighborhood, walking distance from a golf course, houses occupied by retired people and budding families whose kids come by to ask if I want to pay them a couple of bucks to pick up the dog shit on my lawn.

-1. Twelve years of Catholic school pretty much killed my interest in religion.
-2. I can't stand the kids coming by and ringing the doorbell for work, because I have to manually check to make sure they did the job they were supposed to do that I could have in a few minutes.
-3. My drive to work is 45 minutes, to Boulder; full of Boulderites.

+1. I live next to a church. Two nights ago, they had a gathering of kids and their parents with fire trucks, ambulance and funny car that revved its engine and spit fire in the parking lot. Watched it from my window and was happy the community church had a place for kids to play.
+2. Even though the kids suck at doing their job, I like seeing brothers and sisters of various families trying to gain an edge at being small-time entrepreneurs.
+3. My drive to work is filled with beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains to the right and the spectacular sunrises of Colorado to the left.

It's a zero-sum game I live. So I'd say it's okay. Too many other factors that play into happiness of life, but based on where I live and what's around me, I think I'm doing ok.

Our humble town of Welland:
1.) 5PM weekdays, 9pm Fri. & Sat.
2.) Same as stores
3.) Only 7-Eleven & a few 24hr gas stations
4.) None
5.) about 1:00AM
6.) No clue, don't use fitness centers

No to the newsletter. No to special promo offers and advertising. No to sponsoring orphans that Brad and Angelina haven't already adopted.

3. Only a few convenience stores are open 24/7
4. None
5. 12am or 1am.. not 100% sure
6. Don't know, don't care

polish_aristocrat 03-04-2006 10:59 AM

Orange County (I'm not gonna say what city I'm in)

1) 9:00 pm I think. When you say "shops" first thing I think off are clothing shops in the mall and those close at 9 in the evening, I don't pay attention to any other shops much
2) 6 pm but it doesnt matter cause I use the atm, I never go inside the bank
3) Umm I don't know, Denny's and Norms are open 24 hrs, there might be other things open but I don't know about it
4) I don't go to the movies a lot so I dont know
6) I don't know, I don't like to exercise in public like in a gym, only at home

OC sucks, I want to live in LA. OC is too suburban and boring, I can't stand it here.

Antonio 03-04-2006 07:50 PM

over here most of the banks close at 15:30, I think there's only one shopping centre in which the banks stay open until 5 PM

you can not buy alcohol on Sunday, although I've seen bottle stores open on Sun in the past couple of months, so I guess may be the the law had been changed

you can hear about one million languages spoken here, everybody speaks English at least to a certain degree

black and white people don't really mix - most of the night life places are either 'white' or 'black', although that changes slowly

public transport is almost non-existent, if you don't have a car you're fucked, of course there are busses but they come like once an hour and don't cover most of the city

(poor) black people move around using 'black taxis' which are actually minibusses that can take about 15 passengers

reynold 03-05-2006 09:41 PM

1. 9 or 10 in the evening
2. 3 PM
3. only 7/11
4. none
5. 10 PM, 11 the latest
6. this I'm quite not sure
