Seals aren't humans, but they feel pain just like any living creature does. Most humans aren't compassionate and don't give a fuck about animal suffering though, so this stuff goes on.

Paul is right though, that area would make a shit load more money turning it into a major travel destination and tourist attraction.

I was dismayed to learn during my recent trip to Australia that Kangaroos must be periodically culled. It's unfortunate, but the results of over-population, to hear them described, sound far less humane -- :2 cents:

Danny Williams made a good point though, yes they think that seal hunt is bad, but have they ever been to the slaughter houses for pigs, cows, chickens? Its no different, they are still killing the animals and not in very nice ways. There is a pig farm just down the road from me and boy they have the best pork chops I have ever tasted :) But you don't hear about these things cause it happens behind closed doors not out on the open waters and ice like the seal hunt.

i hope that paul and his wife do not win this one - if they do - they will go next to the minker's, then fox guys, then big game hunters, then small game hunters, etc.. doesnt end

In a way it's a catch 22..you leave the seals alone and the fish population decreases,thus putting the fisherman out of work.I'm an animal lover but killing defenseless animals is wrong.I also eat meat so I'm a bit hypocritical

And, as you say, short of "self-culling", I really don't see how to bring things back into balance. But, neither can I think of anything more *counter-natural* than self-culling.

Behold, our best efforts -- zoological parks, preserves, "protected" lands etc. -- do little more than *harm* but in a less apparent (euphemistic?) way.

Every creature feels pain. I'm not a fan of any kind of animal slaugherting obviously. But, unfortunately the biology of man is such they eat the meat of animals, so hundreds of billions of animals are slaughtered to sustain the human race.

But in most slaugherhouses they don't go around clubbing animals 10 times on the head to kill them and letting them lay there for an hour to die.

When I was a kid we were at a baseball park and my little sister got up and made the mistake of running in the direction of a batter who was taking practice swings. The batter didn't see her and she got nailed smack in the forehead as he did a full power swing of the bat around.

To this day I can still hear the sounds of her screaming in pain and writhing on the ground in total agony with blood spurting out of her head. So I don't buy the seal pups don't feel any pain after the first blow.

They kill chickens by hanging them by there feet and cutting there throats, my uncle worked at a chicken farm and I was terrified as a young boy at the amount of blood and seeing those chickens squeal and shake as they died a painful death.

I don't agree with the clubbing myself, but in these modern times 90% of the seals are shot with a gun... problem is these humane places are still using old and outdated videos to try and get people to stop the seal hunt!

Slaughterhouses, animal product testing and experimentation labs, live animal markets, etc. etc.

They are all hell houses as far as I'm concerned.
