"The cars and trucks driven by those in the Top 10 of the 2005 Forbes list was, in short, shocking. You won?t find a Bugatti, Ferrari or BMW driven by these billionaires. But you will find a Lincoln, a Mazda, even a Dodge and Ford. It seems that for the super-rich, a vehicle is seen not as a status symbol, but as a means to an end in which to get from point A to point B. Status is something that these billionaires need not prove to others. In many cases, the people on our list prefer to live inconspicuously, avoiding the limelight at all costs. This might explain why many of their vehicles cost less than your own daily driver. "

interesting :glugglug

Bill Gates' daily driver ? a 1999 Porsche 911 Convertible ? is ripe for replacement, especially considering that Porsche has totally redesigned the latest 911, the 997, for 2005.
I can't paste the pic, but it looks ugly to me

Yeah, well said man. Everybody knows who they are so it's not that necessary anymore for them to show it off with those high priced cars.

JFK 03-02-2006 06:07 PM

most of them have all this money, are they enjoying it or being a slave to it?? Maybe I am putting the cart before the horse, that I drive fancy cars, but you cant take it with you:2 cents:

Shoehorn! 03-02-2006 06:09 PM

Awesome link. I guess you don't get to that point by spending money frivolously.

WiredGuy 03-02-2006 06:11 PM

Wow, really puts things in perspective when billionaires (for the most part) don't really splurge and buy high end cars.

"The real ain't got nothing to prove"

marketsmart 03-02-2006 06:17 PM

gates also has a porsche 959.. one of the few that ever made it to the us. it was an all wheel drive model that could go 265 mph i think and porsche claimed you could drive it in the rain just like it was dry road

Rui 03-02-2006 06:18 PM

So everybody that has fast and/or expensive cars does it only to show it off?...lol yeah rigth

V_RocKs 03-02-2006 06:31 PM

After you get done spoiling yourself... You buy things that have purpose... More purpose than making you 'look' cool!

Zarathustra 03-02-2006 06:41 PM

CherryLipsRosa 03-02-2006 06:52 PM

very interesting post..

warlock5 03-02-2006 06:54 PM

The reason why most billionaires don't collect cars is because they simply aren't very exciting people.

i love my car...im sure they loved theirs...maybe you just end up sticking with what works?

not sure if they were all born into the kind of money to be giving them ferarris on their 16th birthdays, most likely they started with a ford as it was what they could afford, and it worked out for them. not sure but just had to add my two cents..lol
