My Piece of Motorcycle History on EBay for 100k!

So, I have gone to expert after trying to get a hard figure on what this damn blueprint is worth. It seems they all concur that it is definitely worth something but since there hasn't been anything like it they are reserved to even give a ball park. So I said fuck it and put it on EBay with a reserve of 100k. Thought those of you who are following this might be interested.

Send the link to CNN, you never know, they might pick it up and give you some coverage. Stranger things have happened. Good luck with the sale! :thumbsup

wyldblyss 03-02-2006 05:25 PM

I would have put it up for a lower starting bid but kept the reserve at 100K if you wanted to...if the starting bid was lower you could at least see how much interest there was in it and you would still not have to sell under 100K if you didn't want to.

Deepai 03-02-2006 05:28 PM

nice! Take that bad boy to the antique roadshow... that shit is mad fun to watch when baked.

Halcyon 03-02-2006 05:28 PM

very cool. Good luck with it!

Great idea! I just sent then an email and if they pick up on it and I sell it because of the CNN lead, I will be asking you for some contact information and sending a little something.

Is it a 1 piece or in 2 pieces?? When dealing in paper goods they have to be in mint cond. In any case, I feel you are way out in left field with the price. As it was suggested you are scaring away any propective bidders by your high reserve:2 cents:

I wasn't certain at first how that worked. But after I did it I realized that so you are probably right to see if lowering the price will attract more interest.

yeah this is a good idea...the people at Indian might really be intrested in this or know someone who would be...a museum is a good idea too...let us know what you end up getting for it if it does sell...good luck...

mikeyddddd 03-02-2006 06:10 PM

That's crazy! If the right person sees it they're going to choke up a huge wad for it. I'd love just to see it.

Warden 03-02-2006 07:14 PM

I tried Indian but even the revamped company closed its doors agan a couple years ago. I did talk to the Motorcycle Museum in Ohio and they were VERY excited about it until I told him I had no intention of donating it. Rather, if they knew of any collectors that may be interested in buying it and loaning it to the museum.

The_Photographer 03-02-2006 09:19 PM

Contact Barber Motorsports Museum. They might be interested in buying.

Also, you might drum up more interest by loaning it to some museums for a period of time before taking a crack at selling it.

Spunky 03-02-2006 09:24 PM

Wow..so cool..25k so far

I just sent your ebay link to a buddy of mine that works at J&P Cycles. They are the biggest aftermarket HD supplier in the country. He's going to forward it on to John Parham, the owner. Don't know if anything will come of it, but good luck.

psili 03-03-2006 10:38 AM

Nice man.

Maybe you'll be able to retire and then just coach little league football for the rest of your life. ;)

warlock5 03-03-2006 10:39 AM

0 feedback isn't going to help

That would be awesome however I don't see this making enough money to change my life. Now maybe buy the team some new gear maybe!

Well I've never sold or bought ANYTHING on EBay before, so I don't know what I can do about the feedback rating.

this is exactly what i was going to say. 0 feedback keeps people FAR away from bidding on your product.

How the hell have you been Warden? Long time no speak!

:thumbsup

I've been hiding out with a mainstream company thats about to explode. I can't put there name in here because it ends up getting indexed and then when you google the company name it ends up showing a "porn" site in the search results. I almost got fired because of posting its url on this board. But anyhow, it's going well and is either gonna be a bust or I'm gonna be retired in 5 years. I guess only time will tell. I do miss adult though. I think I'll hit Vegas next year as a spectator! Party with some old friends, maybe "dabble" in the industry again.

Who knows?

Warden 03-03-2006 03:38 PM

So, I have 6 people watching this item. Is that a good number or low? Something else that is interesting is that there is well over 300 views on it whereas items submited around the same time I did have maybe 5 or so. I know in both instances, some of these are GFY'ers but I can't help but think that there is a legitimate buyer or two waiting to see what heppens.

Any thoughts?

Warden 03-04-2006 11:46 PM

Just another update. 11 people watching still no bids, but I don't expect any bids till the last day

Theo 03-04-2006 11:52 PM

good luck. at 100k im afraid you wont find a buyer at ebay for this item.

some other offline auction operation may perform better.

I agree 100% with you on this one. SOOOOOOO many people start off their price so high that people just don't bother with it. Since it has a reserve, why do you need the price starting at $25K ??? I'd definately lower it down to 1 penny, that's how you get people interested in it because if it does get up to $25K on it's own, you'll already have a pile of people that were outbid, keeping an eye on it also.

Slick 03-05-2006 12:38 PM

WOW man, you're really shooting yourself in the foot with this auction. I just realized that you have "Local Pick-Up Only". That's bad bad bad. You can wrap the hell outta it and send it overnight insured delivery with FedEx and you'd be covered. The buyer is paying anyways and I'm sure if it goes up high, they're not gonna mind extra to ship.

Pipecrew 03-05-2006 01:09 PM

Just donate it to a museum with the marked up value and take the tax break.

Warden 03-06-2006 10:43 AM

Thanks for the solid advice. I have NEVER done shit on EBay and don't know the intricacies of the procedure of successful sale. Have changed shipping to anywhere and the starting bid at $1

Warden 03-06-2006 12:27 PM

Woohoo!

$1 Now I'm on a roll!

Warden 03-06-2006 01:33 PM

Some questions coming in, that's got to be a good sign.

Warden 03-07-2006 02:15 PM

6 bids with the last one over $600. 17 watchers.

ElvisManson 03-07-2006 02:22 PM

I just sent the link to a friend of mine that is an Art dealer and a Indian Motorcycle owner.
