Syriana is it worth my time?

Is it any good? Would you recommend going to see it in a cinema or should
I just wait for the DVD?

:upsidedow

Zarathustra 03-02-2006 04:43 AM

definately NOT! I fell asleep in the theater. No joke.

ffmihai 03-02-2006 04:51 AM

go and see it

reynold 03-02-2006 05:08 AM

I was planning to watch it but I then I became busy at work. Can you say it was a good "CIA" movie?

reed_4 03-02-2006 05:20 AM

I would be checking this movie too.

directfiesta 03-02-2006 07:01 AM

It is a good movie, but not spectacular.

Shows the wheels of greed and corruption in full motion , as well as all the background politics of the CIA , USA and Arab countries.

Broda 03-02-2006 07:12 AM

It's ok.. more like a chiller than a thriller
good movie but nothing special
worth a watch on dvd - I wouldn't watch it in the cinema

reynold 03-02-2006 09:50 PM

I like one trailer I saw which used the tag line "What is the price of oil?"

I believe the movie tackles a very timely issue

woj 03-02-2006 10:02 PM

it was alright, just don't expect too much from it...

micker 03-02-2006 10:22 PM

The day after it opened they had Bob Baer (actual CIA agent Clooney's character is based on) on NPR and some of his comments interested me enough to go see it... I bought the book about a week later and liked that a bit better... Movies not bad though...

you were a nobody, are a nobody and will remain a nobody:2 cents:

Did you see the fucking movie ??? Nah, no use ...

Just like the fucking Christians and Jews fighting over Passion of Christ, that they also had not seen.

Go work on your great paysite: remember, the one with no girls in it..

Oh forgot: The germans never attacked the USA during WW2 :)

Do everybody a favor: stop breathing!

chodadog 03-02-2006 11:13 PM

I liked it.

JuiceMonkey 03-02-2006 11:19 PM

i was really tired when I went to see it.. some good things in there, but it's far from a THRILLER.. and can get very confusing if you sleep through parts of it :)

HorseShit 03-02-2006 11:53 PM

I liked it. The ending I thought was done right for the movie.

BKing 03-03-2006 12:04 AM

NOOOOOOo dont go see it, i went with 5 people to that movie, 2 walked out, 2 fell asleep and the out and i walked into jarhead :)

uno 03-03-2006 12:44 AM

I thought it was pretty damn good if you enjoy long drama-ish type movies. There isn't too much fast paced action, but there is a lot of well thought out story and good character development/plot. As someone said earlier it shows a lot of the consequences of greed, power struggles, and the human side of things.

Sarah_Jayne 03-03-2006 02:25 AM

I love political stuff but I can't decide it I want to see it. I have seen the trailer a good number of times now before other movies I liked. I might wait for dvd.

Bas 03-03-2006 02:35 AM

Hmmmmm, well, I am gonna watch it tomorrow in the cinema. I think it will be good :)

Kroy 03-03-2006 04:27 AM

Couple of reviews here for ya.

Rotten Tomatoes

Radical Reviews

IMDB

Personally I was a little disappointed because I had expected more. The story itself started in a quite interesting way but quickly seemed to lose itself by trying to touch on too many subjects and portray the characters. In the end, neither the story nor the characters seemed very well developed but that's just one opinion. Many others found the movie to be fantastic.

Agreed....if you are into the subject matter then definitely check it out :2 cents: :)

sickkittens 03-03-2006 08:45 AM

It was ok. Definately one of those movies where you should go back and watch it at least one more time.

G-Rotica 03-03-2006 09:02 AM

I haven't seen it yet either. Waiting for the DVD. However a good frined of mine that did see it, informed me the other night, that wathcing it will piss me off. Since I already have issues with our gubment, it wont take much, so who knows.

Cool I haven't even thought of that. I usually agree with RottenTomatoes
reviews. I'm gonna give it a try. Haven't been in the cinema for quite a while
if the movie sucks at least I'll have scored some bonus points with the wife
I can use a few of those.....I'm at minus at the moment lol.

Thanks everybody for your opinion as always very much appreciated.

:thumbsup

The story was great but they weren't able to keep it focused.

Still, it's really worth seeing. It explains a lot about the United Arab Emirates, the US and the Oil business in general. It's amazing that they let this story get made.

loverboy 03-04-2006 12:18 PM

fell asleep halfway watching

:smokin

bary 03-04-2006 12:23 PM

its not so good

Rhesus 03-06-2006 02:47 AM

Really good movie. The people that walked out just didn't have the mental stamina to bring it to the end, where everything falls into place.

Rhesus 03-06-2006 02:49 AM

Apart from Munich one of the most impressive movies I've watched lately.

DatingGold 03-06-2006 03:39 AM

let me know

reynold 03-06-2006 03:58 AM

and Clooney just won an oscar for the movie

je_rome 03-06-2006 04:27 AM

"Syriana" is that rarest of animals -- the star-laden studio release that's all steak, no sizzle. Steven Gaghan's political thriller is one of the few times in recent years where I wanted a movie to be just a little bit longer, just a little bit more sentimental and just a little bit more formulaic. A frequently fascinating document about the intersection of economics, religion, nationalism and globalism, "Syriana" aims more for the head than the gut, both to its benefit and detriment.
