bowflex

So I figure why not, these monkies on TV are flexing there muscles telling me that this machine will make me lose weight and turn me into he-man within 6 weeks. So I buy it LOL

I'm into week 4 now. I've gained 18 pounds in muscle (im assuming) that I cannot see and this machine isnt making me lose a damn thing! Maybe by summer ill be 400 pounds! LOL

Losing fat and gaining muscle are 2 completely different workout techniques.

*Not to mention a healthy diet

Deepai 03-01-2006 04:36 PM

Are you using it for a bench to eat your supersized McDonald meals?? If so I think I may know why it isn't working effectively for you.

abadfish 03-01-2006 04:42 PM

I'm new to this whole concept called fitness as well. I have been working out for several months now doing cardio and weight training... I have gained 8+ pounds but everyone keeps telling me I look better... So I am under the impression I have gained muscle weight and if I keep it up the fat will start to drop off.... I have been eating better as well. Trying to eat healthier foods, and eat more often, smaller portions, etc.

I'd keep working out and talk to someone about the other things you should be doing...

I'm doing the lose weight one LOL..

Muscle weighs more than fat. Your body composition is changing if you are eating correctly... although you should be able to see some changes.

I would reccomend trying something with minimal carbs and low fat, plus a simple work out program... If you're trying to lose fat, do some lifting, and do cardio after. You'll burn more fat calories that way...

amateurcanada 03-01-2006 05:06 PM

Ok will do - ive doubled up the set to 2. and do mostly upper body exercises (9 of them) at 15 reps each. then end with 10 minutes rowing (preceeding a 5 minute warmup).

sorry.... you didn't gain 18 pounds of muscle in 4 weeks. not gonna happen. not even if you were taking the best drugs available and just coming out of a nazi concentration camp and had access to all the good food you could eat. if you gained that much weight, you just got fatter and might have gained some muscle.

FYI. gained "weight" doesn't equal "muscle"

also granola is typically high in fat... and you are not gaining muscle without adequate protein and fat intake. diet and good training is everything... and although both often seem like simple concepts, they aren't.

Man, it's so much easier to be fat and out of shape... no wonder so many people choose that route. haha

LOL Looks like a disaster. By the way, how much did you pay for that bowflex?

Mr Pheer 03-01-2006 08:38 PM

Sounds to me like you're doing something wrong. I lost 15 pounds in february with my bowflex ultimate, my elliptical machine and just eating smart

WarChild 03-01-2006 08:41 PM

Go to a gym, use a proper isolation machine and you'll feel the difference in the burn between that and your bowflex, guaranteed.
