Server-Based AutoGallery Generator - Feedback Wanted!
Hi,
My programmer is developing a *GENERIC* server-based gallery generator tool. The main function being semi-automated thumbnail gallery creation... I am hoping to make this software generic enough so that I can use it on a variety of webservers and O/s etc... I know there are already tools available that do a similar task but I have tried all of them and none of them cut-it for me.... I am attempting to create the ultimate tool for webmasters and I am hoping to offer it as freeware - self-installing and all :)) Here are the basic features/requirements : The system will facilitate the construction of multiple thumbnail gallery pages Thumbnail gallery pages can be configured using different colors ( user specified color-schemes ) Thumbnail gallery pages can be configured using different page layouts ( user specified templates ) Thumbnail gallery pages can be configured using different number of images ( user specified number-of-thumbs ) Images contained within gallery pages can be of varying sizes.. ( user specified image-sizes ) Thumbnail gallery pages can contain external text links or banner links ( user specified link-choice ) Text links or banner link URL can be configured by user during creation ( user specified link-url ) Each Thumbnail gallery page will be saved in a seperate directory on the server ( user specifed directory-name-location ) The system will obtain images from a location on the server ( user specified image-location(s) ) Image source should be user configurable for multiple possible locations, a random function for lazy users, a choice function for best images etc The system will save thumbnailed images in the same directory as the gallery URL ( e.g. ../gallery01/index.html ) The system will store a history of all gallery creations and locations on each particular server. The system should facilitate existing gallery editing ( rename, delete, change template, URL's etc ) There should be no FTP involved. All server based. Template/gallery layout creation should be performed through choice menu's on web admin Color choice creation should be performed through chouce menu's on web admin ( this is just a snipet of the requirements spec ) NOW.... input please.... what have I missed out? - what features would you all like to see? All those who make positive input in this project will be given a beta copy of this software months before it is realesed... Let me know your thoughts please... We already have TGSW, G.A.S.S and a few others and they are all good at what they do but they don't do what we want! :-)
Server load will not be an issue..... all code written in C Terry |
anybody interested?

It doesn't submit? just generates the galleries?
|
The real question is: What's in it for you?
Something tells me you aren't doing this out of the goodness of your heart. |
No, it doesn't submit to the TGP's.... I think TGSW already does this superbly! :)

it should be able to generate thumnails from a batch of pics
and lots more that i can tell you if you hit me on icq 7525191 |
Well, it means I will benefit from a great piece of software and I will have the advantage of being able to control the future development...
It will also mean that I will be able to create my galleries easily, without all the tedious fucking-around I currently experience...... I own a lot of domains and create galleries for all of them - hence, the emphasis is on O/S independance and easy self-install ( so my employees can do it on different servers) Ultimately, it will save me a lot of effort ( time and money ) and if I can get some more good ideas from like-minded individuals like YOU then that would be great also!.... The software is already in development so I'm already on to what I think is a winner. I'm just opening things up so that maybe I can add a few nice features that I haven't thought about. The people who get involved will get a copy of the software too... Simple as that.... The plan is to release version 1.0 as freeware and maybe offer an enhanced version of future versions for a small fee.... It really depends on the popularity..... Regardless, the first version will be free to all.... but those who assist in the development will get first-use of the product.... Terry |
Sabia, hit me up on ICQ when you get a chance mate...
