so whats the difference between celeron and pentium?
got this dell flyer and i see that about the same pc with an intel celeron is twice as cheap as the intel pentium.. why? Just speed, or also quality wise?
the main differences between Celerons and Pentiums are in the areas of bus speed and L2 cache features.
the spelling's different
Celerons are for Low end work, Real Pentiums are the good shit :-)
lol the spelling yes, but the celeron is just a cheaper model, and therefor slower in a lot of things. it's like choosing between a toyota camery or a bmw. kinda.
Celeron chips have a smaller L2 cache 9128kb compared say with 512kb in the Pentium 4 Northwood, which translates into slower processing speeds. Celerons have a clock speed limit of about 2.0GHz, where as the Pentium is capable of speed in excess of 3.0GHz. Another difference is the Pentium runs at a lower core voltage because it is more energy effecient.
:thumbsup |
The difference is if you want to do any webmastering... graphics design or video editing don't get a celeron. But if your little sister wants something to do her homework on and surf the web a Celeron is perfect.
A couple hundred bucks
ok thanks yall :)
If you aren't going to Game or do high end video, then a fast Celeron should be fine.
they both suck quit wasting your money and time... go AMD

celeron's fucking suck ass. Can't run more then a few programs at once. If you have a lot of programs load up when the computer starts plan on waiting a while. I hate fucking celerons.
In Laymen's terms:
Celeron = Crap Pentium = Good |
As what I've heard, Celerons are basically "cut down" versions of a "full" P4.
For serious data base work or CAD/CAM stuff, you may go with a Pentium 4. However, for general office stuff, I suggest you go for Celeron. |
Its pretty simple. There is more memory on a P4 then a Celeron.
If you are just surfin the net, checkin emails, and basic html ... the Celeron is fine. If you ever work with Adobe products, video editing/streaming and anything eles that involves graphis .... go with a P4 and get extra memory. |
