Deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu has jumped species...

Quote:

A domestic cat in Germany has become the first European Union mammal to die of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu.

The cat was found dead at the weekend on the Baltic Sea island of Ruegen, where dozens of H5N1-infected birds have been found.

The most dangerous country is Africa. Its already starting there now and that continent has extremely unhygenic animal handling and processing. It'll be a breeding ground for cross mutations just like AIDS.

Its also now in France, Germany and Italy, so all of Europe is getting it next.

:(

Sam Granger 02-28-2006 10:22 AM

If people can get it, so can cats. The cat must of eaten a bird with the infection.

Relish XXX 02-28-2006 10:26 AM

It is about as deadly as Sars. I remember them saying all it would take was for one person with Sars to sneeze in the London undergroung and the earth as we know it would not exist. Find me a bird with the flu and I will personally fuck it, eat it and then shit it. Trust me I will be fine.

Come to Arizona ... we are allowed to carry guns everywhere. I carry my 12gauge in my car at all times.

Between AIDS and the bird flu Africa will be wiped out in 20 years.

lol well thats not exactly the right idea..

The bird might still kill you, the difference is in how the infection spreads to other people..

If an infected person shows symptoms right away then they are usually easy to catch. if it takes a week to show symptoms and the most infectable time is the first 3 days , then it wouldnt matter how deadly it was it would eventually kill all of us right.. even if it only killed 1/100 people it would keep re-infecting people because of the time it takes to show symptoms until we were all dead..

DamageX 02-28-2006 11:25 AM

Just wait until this fucker mutates.

David! 02-28-2006 11:30 AM

Mutation has started, better have water and food supply cuz the shit hits the fan we are about to witness a total breakdown of the world economy.....

dinkz 02-28-2006 11:35 AM

It's in Sweden now too...

What I've heard it's similar to the "Spanish Flu", so if it mutates and start infecting humans it'll kill alot of people in no-time.

come on guys, seriously. If it's your time to go it's your time. Why sweat it until you're nervous system is breaking down and you twitch while tossing your cookies?

Everything up till then is just peachy.

Dirty Dane 02-28-2006 12:15 PM

This hole thing reminds me about AIDS in the 80's. People were afraid because the media wrote stuff like you could be infected by mosquitoes. There were panic. Its ironic how much is focused on something we can't control, and at the same time much more people die by 'human' causes we could stop. Weapons, wars, traffic accidents, drugs, alcohol, too much or too less food.. just to mention a few. :helpme

H5N1 have been around for years, its have killed 90 people.
AIDS kill millions every year and spreads like wildfire.

If you have sex with a bird you can get H5N1, if you have sex with a human you can get AIDS.

The news just like to scare people to buy the magazines and stay glued to the tv, this is just shit.

Terror Alert! Bird Flu Alert!

Lets get real and see the real world problems instead.

pornguy 02-28-2006 01:29 PM

Just another flu for the medical companies to come up with a cure for. they will wait until about 10k are dead, and then release a cure or vaccine for 200$ a hot.

jjjay 02-28-2006 02:36 PM

Dollarmansteve 02-28-2006 03:09 PM

As long as the killer bees stay away I'll be able to sleep at night....

And this isnt really news.. the virus has been 'jumping species' the whole time.. there have been plenty of mammals (humans) who have caught H5N1 through contact with infected birds and bird meat. As someone said, this cat probably ate an infected dead bird.

As of yet, the virus has not mutated into a form that is transmitted through the air.. so.. im not worried yet... nor will I be worried... ever. The worst flu pandemics on record (eg spanish flu of 1918 that killed something like 40 million people).. is pretty much as bad as you can get. Given advances in medical technology since 1918 and the global awareness of this disease I would foresee even the worst case scenario being many times less severe than 1918.

Nathan 02-28-2006 03:22 PM

Dollarmansteve,

the spanish flu was in 1918, as far as I remember quite a bit less people had cars, and quite a bit less people traveled far distances each day, also I think flying was not really common.

I also doubt it will be worse than the spanish flu, but still, it will be bad once it breaks out. And yeah, most people do not seem to understand that the bird flu itself is not the problem. The problem is that the more people that get in contact with sick animals, the more likely it is that someone that has the normal human flu virus is infected with H5N1 and a mutation comes out of it that is human transferable. It most likely would not be as leathal as H5N1 is, but it would still be bad...

This is true, but there was also a world war that had people spread out all over the globe and returning home.. this was the primary reason for the spread of the 1918 flu.

I truly believe that given the amount of information that humanity has about flu viruses, severe outbreaks will be much more highly contained.

Yeah, it's just media hype.

When my 16 year old uncle died of the 1968 H3N2 pandemic strain that's what my mom and other uncles and aunts told him.

Look, you're not going to die. Stop telling us you are afraid and that you're going to die. The doctors are going to remove a lung because it's dead.

Pandemics?! Pfft..

It's just media hype. Pandemics do not happen. It's science fiction. It only happened 2 times before in this century. You're overreacting.

He died in agony a couple of days later..

Stupid media hype! A pandemic like the Spanish Flu will never happen again. And millions of vaccines will be ready 2 days later (Because we know it only takes 2-3 days to manufacture millions of vaccines..) Stop worrying and live your life to the fullest.

Must have.. kitty ate a birdy. If I'm not mistaken, can't human also get the bird flu if they eat an infected bird? So this probably isn't that big of a deal if that's the case.

xxxdesign-net 02-28-2006 04:40 PM

Jumped species?? whatcha talking about!?

You know, humans have died from it too... Has long as its doesnt spread from human to human or cat to cat.. nothing is new...

infecto 02-28-2006 05:26 PM

This is BS. Just because a cat died from H5N1 doesn't mean the flu has jumped species. Cats usually eat birds no? Eating a raw bird infected with H5N1 will infect you. Cat eats bird, cat dies.

Media Beat-up. This is Murdock news corporation trying sell papers.

Didn't your mumma tell you not to put you face up to the bird cage or breath in deeply when you were feeding the chooks. Bird flu has been around for eons. My favourite Budgy died from it.

It's just now the media have got hold of it and are running with it. I's amazing how many people get sucked in by Rupert Murdock and his bullshit news. (Sad, but the prick is Australian - Made me laugh when I heard Lachlan Murdock was camp as a row of tents. He even married Sara O'Hare to dispell the rumours...it didn't work. Him and Tom Cruise would make good bum chums).
